All said, the motto of ‘Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt Ltd’ is “as long as you’re still alive, you always have the chance to start again.” Although there are parts in the show when emotions run high, they are never overbearing. Instead, it has shaped up as an inspiring story of an ordinary woman who goes above and beyond her limitations for her family.

Time to pat on writer and director’s back! What makes this show, not at all boring and worth watching is that it is absolutely real. There is no drama. Everything is, as it is. Whether it is an argument or an emotional scene, it all looks real. Even Dialogues are unfiltered, which only added to the relatability aspect of the show. Overall, the makers successfully presented it as a show to which everyone can connect.Overall, Amruta Subhash’s show is a much-watch. It is empowering, and motivating and is a depiction of the world around us.

When Suman (Amruta Subhash) says that young women like her are never taught any tools for an eventuality they will have to fend for themselves, that their whole life before marriage is a training to keep her man happy, who will then take care of all her needs, she speaks for a generation of women like her. She turns to the only skill she has — ‘achaar-making’– in the hope of making some money, only to realise nothing is ever as simple as it looks, even with the ostensible help of the canny but good-hearted Shukla ji (Anandeshwar Dwivedi).

It is a mixed pickle that you get, where touching sequences that resonate jostle for space with absolutely absurd scenes such as the one where the mother drops into her former in-laws’ home in the dead of the night for the sake of her children. An admirably executed early scene has Suman talking of the harsh Indian reality where raising a girl in India even today is not about educating her but about preparing her for a dream marriage and, if the marriage sours, they have no way alternative in life to fall back on. It is a scene that crisply captures the general profundity the show tries setting up, though the story overall fails to replicate and sustain such depth.
