Panchayat 2 doesnt try hard to be comedic or slapstick, it doesnt try to change the world of patriarchy, societal ills like dowry, or rally for women empowerment. It just exists in a simple no-frills rural life set in the heartland of India. Its the kind of escapism we need from the grimness of life and that makes it watchable, all over again.

Panchayat Season 2 starring Neena Gupta, Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav and others is a good watch, but its slow pace would leave you wondering at times. However, the show gives a real vibe of the village Phulera while focusing on the real life issues faced by people in rural India.

As we move through this second season, the screenplay finds ways to focus on Abhishek and Rinkys love story, which doesnt always work, I feel, despite Jitendras strong performance. But this is a minor quibble with an otherwise excellent return for Panchayat. In Gullak and Panchayat, TVF surely has the two best family-friendly streaming shows in India.

Panchayat 2 is a worthy second season of an already good show. To say that it improves upon the first season wouldnt be an exaggeration. It makes you laugh, it almost makes you cry, and all this while, you can feel you have seen these people and these stories somewhere. That relatability is its USP and what truly keeps the viewer engaged till the end.
