While the source material (Swarup’s book) is engrossing enough, Dhulia ensures his adaptation has you invested and involved in the case too. His narrative style, with retelling the story from the characters’ viewpoint and plenty of going back and forth, keeps you glued to your seat and your eyes fixated on the screen to know what happens next. Even though based on a book, this Ajay Devgn-produced series makes a compelling watch for its suspense, drama and excellent performances by an interesting ensemble cast.

A secondary character in The Great Indian Murder, produced by Ajay Devgn Films, puts the murky goings-on in perspective: “Dilli bhi toh gol-gol hain… Shaher chhahe kitna bhi bada ho bade logon ka circle hamesha chhota hi hota hai.” That line conveys the essence of writer-director Tigmanshu Dhulia’s adaptation of Vikas Swarup’s Six Suspects, a murder mystery that doubles up as a lucid commentary on India’s many implacable schisms.

Tigmanshu Dhulia does leave his comfort zone to make the show, but some notes do fall loose. It isn’t a bad show, it is a decent watch that could have been more fun if a few more things were looked after.

वेब सीरीज के लेखकों की टीम के साथ निर्देशक तिग्मांशु धूलिया (Tigmanshu Dhulia) ने पूरी कोशिश की है कि कहानी को कस कर रखें लेकिन इसके लिए उन्हें अतिरिक्त मेहनत करनी पड़ती है. यह साफ नजर आता है. इससे कहानी की सहजता कहीं-कहीं बाधित होती है. द ग्रेट इंडियन मर्डर (The Great Indian Murder) का कैमरा वर्क और बैकग्राउंड म्यूजिक बढ़िया है.यह सीरीज उन दर्शकों के लिए है जो क्राइम और पॉलिटिक्स का मिक्स देखना पसंद करते हैं. यहां अपराध के साथ उसकी वजह भी ठोस है, जिस पर से पर्दा उठना अभी बाकी है. यह पर्दा दूसरे सीजन में उठेगा और तब तक इंतजार करना होगा.

All in all, ‘The Great Indian Murder’ provides us moments of pleasure as it winds its way from start to finish of the first season, if you manage to stick with it. I will leave you with one of my absolute favourites: Dhulia, showing up for a flash, as a Delirious Rajinikath Fan. He exhibits more verve in that blink-and-miss second than many of his own actors.
