The series’ pace, with each episode lasting nearly an hour, may be too much for some viewers, but those who are inclined towards science-based shows will undoubtedly binge-watch it. All said, ‘Rocket Boys’ is a glowing tribute to India’s scientific luminaries, as well as their struggle and hard work. On top of that, Jim Sarbh and Ishwak Singh give credible performances in this biographical drama, making it a well-intended series.

Rocket Boys gets the science of blending fact and fiction absolutely right and delivers a viewing experience that is at a marked remove from what all the binge-worthy generic shows out there tend to yield. Highly recommended.

Director Abhay Pannu has tried to pack in too much into a series that feels overstretched. A line in Rocket Boys goes, “Often the best men tend to lose objectivity in their pursuit of excellence.” Perhaps, this is what happened to the series. Despite all its good intentions and a brilliant story celebrating two stalwarts and their indomitable spirit, Rocket Boys doesn’t feel like a wholesome experience. But, sticks in mind for highlighting the struggles and successes of two brilliant men who wrote India’s scientific history more than half a century ago – Homi J Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai.

होमी और विक्रम के किरदार यहां खूबसूरती से उभरे हैं. जिम सरभ और इश्वाक सिंह ने अपनी भूमिकाएं प्रभावी ढंग से निभाई हैं. जिम सरभ अपने अंदाज से यहां याद रह जाते हैं जबकि इश्वाक सिंह की सादगी मोहने वाली है. रेजिना कैसेंड्रा और सबा आजाद भी अपने किरदारों में जमी हैं. होमी के प्रतिद्वंद्वी के रूप में रजा मेहदी बने दिव्येंदु भट्टाचार्य का काम अच्छा है. स्वतंत्र भारत के शिल्पी कहे जाने वाले प्रथम प्रधानमंत्री पं.नेहरू के किरदार को रॉकेट बॉय्ज में जिस तरह उकेरा गया है, उसे देख कर कहीं-कहीं लगता है कि यह उन्हें जानबूझकर कमजोर और संशयग्रस्त दिखाने की कोशिश है. यह एक अलग बहस का विषय है.

The series takes you back to a forgotten India. A time when idealism was a good word, and the liberal, democratic spirit of debate and discussion was evident in the highest galleries of power. Science and scientists were respected; prime ministers listened to them and their ideas, however outlandish they may have seemed at first. Its bullock carts and tongas notwithstanding, India’s space programme and the speed at which it acquired nuclear capability catapulted the country into a never-before league. And those responsible for this feat were these true Renaissance men. They saw the future. What would they have made of today’s India, were they still alive?
