Looop Lapeta is the story of that one life-altering day for Satya and his partner Savi. But like the three o’s in Looop, we see three versions of the story and how the choices the characters make have a butterfly effect and shape the outcome differently. The film is an adaptation of Tom Tykwer’s groundbreaking 1998 film Run Lola Run. But debutant director Aakash Bhatia adds enough new twists and characters to stretch the one hour, twenty-one minutes of Run Lola Run to two hours, eleven minutes in Looop Lapeta. And therein lies the rub.

Dr. Vinay Chhawal, Ketan Pedgaonkar, Aakash Bhatia and Arnav Vepa Nanduri have written an engaging story and screenplay which is based on the German film written by Tom Tykwer. Although the same drama is repeated thrice, it is only the third time that slight boredom creeps in. The track of Julia and Jacob in the last round seems too long and boring. Otherwise, the drama keeps the audience quite entertained because of the concept and the interesting characters in the drama. Of course, new layers of the story get revealed each time — and that’s done very well to sustain the viewers’ interest. The various tracks, other than the main track, are as interesting as the main one. Dialogues are superb, very real and greatly add to the fun quotient.

All said and done, Looop Lapeta is a lot more than being an adaptation of yet another international film. It not just touches a technical peak but is also backed by an extremely strong story & memorable performances. A visually appealing, soul-satisfying experience for all the nerd cinema lovers and a well-made, intriguing thriller for everyone else.

On the whole, LOOOP LAPETA works due to the experimental plot, stylized narrative and Taapsee Pannu’s performance. However, thanks to the loopholes in the script and the weak side tracks, the film at best turns out to be an average fare.

The music and animation department, too play a crucial role in making this film as trippy, twisty and funny as planned. A panicky Taapsee, Tahir and the supporting cast; each character must succumb to desperate measures to save the day and they all do it well.Looop Lapeta is a refreshing attempt to move beyond the mundane. Watch it.

Looop Lapeta, shot by cinematographer Yash Khanna, necessarily relies overly on artifice to narrate its mind-bending story of a duo in a bind. Splashes of colour, tinted visuals, skewed angles and frequent split screens – horizontal, diagonal, multiple, the works – are pressed into service. Some of it works, some doesn’t. But that is how life is, isn’t it?

Looop Lapeta is a far cry from conventional Hindi cinema, and while I would personally prefer to watch rooted Indian stories and home-grown experimentation, as remakes go, this one is certainly worth a watch. In fact, it is the film’s uniquely Indian ingredient that helps it outrun the sensory excesses it unleashes on the viewer from the word go. It gets off the starting block by reminding the audience that “what goes around comes around” but ends by explaining the same universal dictum with a hilarious bow to Madhubala and to Jawaharlal Nehru’s love of roses. The scent of the soil in which it is situated is what makes Looop Lapeta as much an intelligent adaptation as it is a remake of a cult film.

A film whose premise is as slender needs to be fast and furious. ‘Looop Lapeta’ takes much too long to warm up, and gets into its stride only after the interval. Its USP, the looping back of time upon itself, where certain things will happen differently depending upon how it all starts, starts to creak too soon, despite all its stylistic flourishes and cool psychedelic lighting. The film makes you wait for it to get into its stride, and that’s never a good thing.
