The first half of Khiladi plays to the gallery and even tests your patience. Numerous mass songs, a cliché love story, jokes that hardly make you laugh dilute the seriousness of the story that simmers beneath the surface. And when the director makes the odd narrative choice of beginning the story with the predicament Gandhi is supposedly in, it makes the viewer impatient. But things pick up right before the interval and Ramesh does manage to pull the carpet right from under you. Does it make any logical sense when you begin connecting the dots? Absolutely not. Is it high on style? Sure. And now that the story seems to have come unto it’s own, it makes one hope for a better narrative in the second half.

Unless a filmmaker brings some novelty to the board, the stories of hero-playing have become a tiresome watch to the audiences. “Khiladi” is the latest addition. “Khiladi” has a tagline of ‘play smart’, but the film doesn’t boast any smartness. With an unconvincing climax and overstuffed second half, the con drama turns out to be a bore. Too many subplots and too many twists have burdened the experience.

Khiladi is the most farcical movie in recent months. Even the director might not understand whats going on if he watches the film. The ridiculous story is further spoiled by poor cinematography and post production. There are lot of scenes lack minimum lighting or post production. Huge casting , couple of high budget action sequences and two mass songs are wasted. Even fans of Raviteja can happily avoid the film.

The real problem with Khiladi starts in the second half of the movie. We get a glimpse of the issue in the first half, but they are blown out of proportion during the second hour. It is an overstuffed story and screenplay. Overall, Khiladi is an overstuffed, over the top entertainer that tests patience and kills interest despite a fast pace and lavish making. It is one of those films that goes wrong a little too soon and never turns the tide back. If you are a fan of the star, pretend the movie didn’t exist.
