Ghani is a decent sports drama, but that’s all it ends up being – decent. The film doesn’t provide anything you haven’t seen before. Watch it this weekend if sports dramas are your thing, but with expectations in check.

Sports dramas require inspiring moments when the protagonist plays the match, but here all we see is only a repeat of punches that don’t give an emotional high. The writing team and director seem to have failed to put in the effort as much as Varun Tej has to achieve physicality.In a nutshell, “Ghani” lacks the required punch for a sports drama. The efforts are visible, but the play doesn’t hold our interest at all.

On the whole, Ghani is a passable boxing drama which has a stand out performance by Varun Tej. However, the routine storyline, dull first half and predictable scenes hamper the proceedings. If you are okay with these above said aspects and love sports dramas, Ghani can be given a shot this week but there is nothing new that is being showcased here.

A more refreshed take be it the love story or the mother-son conflict, and more amped out drama (with a few tweaks) during the sports segments would have made Ghani a lot better than what it is currently.
