MaddockFilms delivers yet another winner… A delicious cocktail of humour, supernatural, and romance… Takes a completely uncharted path as far as the plot goes… EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED! The plot is entirely novel for #Hindi movie audiences, and that is its biggest strength… The film draws inspiration from #Indian folklore, and the narrative remains engaging throughout – keeping you hooked, entertained, and guessing right until the finale.

Thamma has sweep, ambition, and imagination but it’s also overlong and repetitive. The vampire jokes stop being comical after a point. There’s an ill-timed kiss too. Another flimsy moment (this time not in good ways) that shows a Herculean Ayushmann Khurrana brings back memories of a man-mountain Hrithik Roshan from the climax of Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage. The cliffhangers are losing sheen and after a point, it may be difficult to connect the dots as Maddock’s horror-comedy universe continues to grow. Next in line is Shakti Shalini starring Aneet Padda in the lead. This new outing must have Geeta Sharma anyhow. We then get to see a semi-Saiyaara universe hopefully with a cameo by Mohit Suri.

Thamma’ is an ambitious but hollow addition to the Maddock horror comedy universe. There’s blood, there’s chaos, there’s even a universe connection, but very little soul. These fangs don’t dig deep, and yet, the mess is all over the floor. Watch it only if you are invested in how ‘Stree’ and ‘Bhediya’ stories move forward. Otherwise, this one’s better left in the coffin or on that hospital bed where it tried hard to get resuscitated.

Thamma was capable of so much more. This is the first time that a mainstream Hindi film is exploring the myths surrounding vampires. Yes, there’s masala, loads of it. But MHCU’s earlier films had raised our expectations so high that by the end of Thamma, you’ll be left feeling high and dry. There was ample room for experimentation and there was so much potential to push boundaries and dare more. But ultimately, the storytelling remains curiously restrained and gets reduced to just another horror-comedy with tropes that arrive on cue.

In every aspect, Thamma is a Diwali release—opulent, poignant, and full of scenes that make you laugh, dance, and become more involved with the movie. It is entertaining the audience without undervaluing their intelligence. Additionally, it makes it quite evident that the Maddock horror-verse is not only growing but also getting ready for battle. Thamma is something much, much greater than a movie or a spark, so light those diyas and put those popcorns in your hands.

One of the protagonist, Ayushmann Khurrana plays journalist from a small-town, whose accidental encounter with the supernatural triggers a series of events far beyond his control and understanding. In the beginning, he’s endearing, charming, and relatable, but as the story progresses, his performance evolves into something more intense and layered.
