Aditya Chopra’s story is not up to the mark. It is not just confusing but also convoluted. Shridhar Raghavan’s screenplay is equally convoluted and long-drawn. The first half is dull. The portion related to childhood of Kabir and Vikram (as soon as the second half starts) is very boring and irritating.On the whole, War 2 is too ordinary a fare to be loved by the audience. It is far from being a worthy successor to War. It will, therefore, do below-average business.

War 2 is mostly a delight for action and thriller lovers. Hrithik Roshan owns every frame with his charisma, physique, and action skills, delivering yet another powerhouse performance. Jr NTR makes a confident debut in Bollywood, leaving a strong impression in his very first Hindi film. The action sequences are designed to keep the adrenaline pumping, and his dialogues deserve special mention.This isn’t just a story of one RAW agent turning mercenary to save India – it’s filled with twists, turns, layers, and history that will keep you guessing throughout.

Director Ayan Mukerji keeps a tight balance between drama and action, something we’ve come to expect from the Spy franchise. The film flows smoothly because of the impressive starry aura of Hrithik and Jr NTR, allowing both of them to flex their brooding action star appeal. The action set pieces, however ridiculous, keeps you hooked and the grandeur of the execution is entertaining. But as expected from the trailer, the sketchy VFX is an eyesore. The face-off between Hrithik and Jr NTR is the main highlight here.

War 2 showed promise not as a coherent story but at least dumbed down cheerful fun when it began. But just like Tiger 3, it began to take itself way too seriously when all it needed to do was guffaw at its silliness. There are endless conversations and combats that barely serve any purpose. The sheer disappointment of the enterprise fails its two competent leading men that have shone in masala stories before. And War 2 is not the end, we have more films in the spy universe coming in. One happens to be Alpha and then what not. Shah Rukh Khan once rightly said in an interview, only the dead have seen the end of War.

Although the backstory for both characters is decently written, the overall screenplay is formulaic. The repeated flip-flop of one hero turning villain and vice versa feels contrived and quickly becomes tiresome.Overall, War 2, despite featuring two big stars and a handful of stylish action sequences, ends up as a disappointment due to its weak screenplay and lack of compelling narration. While it follows the same template as War, it doesn’t come close to matching the impact of the original. This feels like a missed opportunity for both NTR and YRF. Director Siddharth Anand’s films are known for their fast-paced, racy execution, but Ayan Mukerji fails to bring that same energy and finesse here.

One would expect at least some fresh, engaging action set pieces and, when both heroes share the screen, an enjoyable chemistry that enhances the experience. Instead, the action blocks while over the top, lack the freshness that would make them truly exciting.Overall, War 2 will be remembered as a wasted opportunity. A refreshing combination of a top North star and a South star like NTR should have delivered something special, yet NTR is grossly underutilised. Add to that the utterly routine core plot, action design, and execution, and the result is a film that leaves the audience with a deep sense of dissatisfaction from what was supposed to be an ambitious project.
