Although the arguments in court get very technical at several places, the overall courtroom drama is quite entertaining. The first half is crisp but the same cannot be said of the post-interval portion which is both, lengthy and boring at times. On the whole, The Taj Story is a thought-provoking film and entertaining, too, in parts. It will do average business in the big centres mainly.

It started off well, but with a run time of three-hours, erratic writing and the faulty execution the second -half especially was totally disastrous and inconclusive. Sadly, there is not a single Wah Taj moment in the film! It is just a wasted opportunity.

Paresh Rawal, as always, gives an earnest performance, but even he can’t salvage this disjointed mess. He’s surrounded by cardboard characters, clunky dialogue, and a script that’s trying to be a history lesson, a courtroom drama and a social commentary all at once, and failing spectacularly at each.

In the end, The Taj Story is certainly designed to spark curiosity — and perhaps even challenge long-held beliefs. But the line between raising questions and pushing an agenda becomes blurry. The film might appeal strongly to audiences already aligned with its perspective, but others may find the storytelling a touch overbearing and the central conflict lacking historical grounding. Still, as cinema, it succeeds in starting a conversation — even if not everyone agrees with the one it’s trying to have.

At 165 minutes, The Taj Story trudges on without offering any real answers to the questions it raises. Instead, it merely stirs the pot, blending fact and fiction to serve an agenda far removed from historical inquiry.

The firm assertions that are peppered across The Taj Story would have achieved their avowed goal had the film been written better, mounted better and edited better. It isn’t. As a result, it falls well short of being passably entertaining or genuinely thought-provoking. Verdict: The Taj Story is a throw of dice that is all over the place. Even Paresh Rawal cannot save it.

If you want to see an entertaining film that still educates and does it without any parochial or propagandist angle, The Taj Story is indeed your slice of history. It scours something that is covered by needless veneers and asks pointed questions in a relevant manner.

Ratings:2.5/5 Review By: TOI Site: Times Of India
In the end, ‘The Taj Story’ is a middling watch that plays safe within a familiar framework. It raises provocative questions but stops short of exploring them with nuance or restraint. What remains is a film that wants to be bold but ends up being predictable—a tale that begins with curiosity and ends with fatigue. Ultimately, it neither shakes your beliefs nor stirs your emotions, leaving you detached from its intent. With sharper writing and tighter direction, it could have been the thought-provoking film it aspires to be.
