On the whole, Shaitaan is an ordinary fare which will do business better than its limited merits as it (business) will be more on the strength of its genre and star cast.

Overall, Shaitaan stands out as a riveting horror-thriller, headlined by stellar performances from Ajay Devgn, R Madhavan, Jyothika, and others. With its seamless blend of intense drama, supernatural elements, and occult intrigue, this film is sure to leave audiences spellbound till the very end.

Overall, Shaitaan had all the potential of being an excellent supernatural thriller. The first half is so-so, but its the second half where the story becomes shoddy and a confusing mess. The climax leaves you with a bitter aftertaste, and you feel cheated as you dont get the desired and significant answers.

On the whole, Shaitaan is a passable affair if you are intrigued by psychological thrillers. Even though it manages to induce goosebumps, the slow build-up of the narrative can come across as a hiccup. However, impressive performances by Ajay Devgn, Jyotika, R Madhavan make it a watch worth once.

Shaitaan is that old, tired God-over-evil adage that has been revamped and rehashed in Hindi cinema for ages. This time, like most other times, it just does not land on the Devil’s den.

When the trailer of the film dropped, expectations were high for a gripping supernatural drama that Bollywood has been lacking. While the writer-director team succeeded in piquing curiosity in the first half, the latter part leaves you restless, questioning everything that unfolds on screen. ‘Shaitaan’ serves as a prime example of how a well-cut trailer can lure audiences to the theatre, only to dash their high hopes.

Madhavan, who has himself a grand time submitting to the campy tone of his character, is scary to begin with, with a demonic snicker here and a smile there. I mean, which actor can resist black robes and mumbo jumbo and voodoo dolls? But then the script decides that the bad guy needs to be defanged. Devgn, in extended Drishyam mode, as the family man-cum-all round saviour, comes off stolid. This is a film in which the villain needed to have the last word.

Even though Shaitaans narrative stumbles at times, the masterful use of atmosphere and top-notch acting elevate it into an unsettling experience worth having.

Anngad Raaj is wonderful as the smart and sensitive Dhruv. Janki Bodiwala, reprising the role she played in Vash, is the most compelling performer. Bodiwala memorably conveys Jhanvis anguish at obeying Vanrajs demented demands while trying to hold on to her true self. As Vanraj, the aptly cast R Madhavan is smug, sadistic and sinister in equal measure.
