Meher Ramesh tests his luck and your patience both with this Telugu remake of Ajith-starrer Vedalam. The film that promises to be a commercial potboiler ends up seeming like a mishmash of different stories. What’s worse is that all these stories are outdated at best and cringe-worthy at worst.Bholaa Shankar suffers because the shift between the various portions of the film is jarring, not to mention, the writing needed a deft hand. Not even Chiranjeevi and Keerthy are enough to save the day.

Vedalam itself is a 2015 film. When it is being remade, one expects a better upgrade. But Bhola is stuck in the older format. It is a down-grade version and a putrid remake in fact. Chiru & Meher duo disappoint with formulaic approach. There are no goosebump moments either. Clearly, the lack of high moments may disappoint fans as well. All these make Bhola Shankar a boring and tedious watch. Meher Ramesh missed comeback opportunity.

On the whole, Chiranjeevi’s Bholaa Shankar is a mediocre action drama with decent performances from Chiranjeevi and Keerthy Suresh. Comedy scenes here and there worked well in both halves. Keep your expectations in check while watching this movie, as it features a few unnecessary scenes and a laggy screenplay.

Technical-wise, the movie is not captivating. 70’s script with 80’s dialogues and so on. Bhola Rage BGM and Bhola Mania song is good. Those are the only positives that we could find in this garbage. While the first half is completely ineffective, the second half is tolerable but still lacks oomph. Script and narrative that are out of date and fall short.

Bhola Shankar’s first half is as outdated as it comes. From the comedy to the action and even song picturisation, everything looks stale and comes across as at least a couple of decades old. Only Chiru seems passable and becomes the sole reason to move to the second half. Right from the first shot, Bhola Shankar is hopelessly outdated, with the drama and emotions falling below par. It’s a time machine ride taking us back two decades ago, and the culprits are the writing and treatment. Bhola Ji, ye kya Ji?
