Kabzaa, set in the pre-independence period, revolves around the life of Arkeshwara(Upendra), the son of a freedom fighter, who turns rowdy, and then a mafia don. He then goes on to build a huge empire. What makes him such a strong force and why the son of a patriotic father becomes an underworld don is the main elements of the movie. There is also another story of a royal family which keeps viewers hooked to the content. The story, visual presentation, and ensemble cast makes the movie worth watching.

Rest everyone decided to copy from other’s sheet, and one has to see the sheer audacity of a team of people hell-bent on wasting a lot of money. There’s even a part two.If you have nothing else left to see, you might still want to watch that beautiful tree from your window. Also, I honestly want your eardrums to be safe.

Right from the get-go, the film will remind you of Yash’s KGF. Starting from the colour tone to the editing pattern, every single element is inspired by Prashanth Neel-starrer. Kabzaa is a two-hour-long film replete with glossy visuals, slo-mo shots and dead men.Chandru’s film takes itself very seriously. It masquerades as a film that is high on content, but, in retrospect, it has a wafer-thin storyline. Instead, the voice-over tells you what we already know.Kabzaa could have been another KGF for the Kannada film industry. But, it ends up being a laughing stock.

The dialogue seems to be translated using Google Translate and it most often sounds funny in places where it shouldn’t be. The success of KGF is a milestone event in Kannada cinema, and that is bound to inspire some insipid films like Kabzaa. This was always coming and one can bet that such tiresome affairs are not going to stop. Kabzaa is just the beginning of this phase that will implode after crores of money are spent on such damp squibs and when the name KGF starts leaving a bad aftertaste in the mouth because of such redundant attempts.

On the whole, Kabzaa is a loud and boring period action drama that fails to live up to its expectations. Upendra and the cinematography are the only solaces in this tiresome flick. The routine story, uninteresting narrative, and lack of emotions make it a disappointing fare. You can comfortably skip this film.

Overall, Kabzaa comes with a massive KGF movie hangover in style, making, background score and editing, so much so that it looks like a poor man’s version of it. But, it fails to engage and provide a clean narrative making it difficult to sit through. An easily avoidable fare even for action movie lovers.
