On the whole, Indoo Ki Jawani is a dull fare because of the slow, boring and irritating second half. It will not find favour with any class of audience — neither the jawan audience nor the old nor even the young at heart. It will almost face rejection at the ticket windows.

Logic is often scarified at the altar of comedy and entertainment, but the problem with writer-director Abir Sengupta’s story is that it’s highly preposterous and profoundly silly. Just like Indoo’s character that cannot decide whether she wants to be the badass and have all the fun or worry about ‘log kya kahenge’, the film’s narrative also seems confused. From full on Pakistan-bashing to half-hearted jingoism and from preaching about not judging a book by its cover to saying that all Indians are highly judgmental, ‘Indoo Ki Jawani’ tries to go everywhere and reaches nowhere.

Bollywood is back in Ghaziabad. This time around, the camera isn’t trained on foul-mouthed, trigger-happy criminals but on libidinous lads – and a young lady – and raging hormones. But the outcome is no better. Indoo Ki Jawani, released theatrically, is an insipid, half-baked comedy toplined by a spirited Kiara Advani and peopled by sundry men who can’t tell their brain from their groin.

If you have desperately waited to come back to cinemas with a decent time pass film, then you should definitely go for Indoo Ki Jawani.Overall, Indoo Ki Jawani is very much watchable for the stunning Kiara Advani, amazing supporting cast and some fun moments. The editing is slick and juxtaposes the suspense of a terrorist on the loose with the laughs that come our way courtesy the adult comedy. Despite the movie being just under 2 hours, it tends to lag at bit at the end, and the pedantic messaging about not judging a book by its cover and not hating anyone without actually getting to know them might seem too simplistic to explain the sensitivities of two nations at loggerheads. But the intentions are no doubt good and what Indoo Ki Jawani will hopefully be remembered for are the great laughs, good acting and a plot that entertains and attempts to educate! Not a bad mission for a small-time Bollywood movie.
