On the whole, Torbaaz is a dull fare and will not find too many takers. Had it been released in cinemas, it would have done poor business because it lacks commercial ingredients.

Girish Malik’s story is heartfelt and sends an excellent message about world peace. However, a good story is nothing if it doesn’t engage the audience. The screenplay of the story hardly grips you because even the most emotional scenes fail to move you. Overall, Torbaaz can be skipped because it doesn’t deliver the intense message with the intensity it deserved.

The film’s end credits tell us that many members of the Afghanistan cricket team have emerged from similar tough circumstances. This could have been such an inspiring tale, but the loose plot, chock full of colourless characters, meanders minus focus.

It is difficult to find any sort of relatability with the characters. Yes, you may feel a bit dejected at the back stories of the children or even Dutt for that matter, but on the whole Torbaaz misses the target. The only plus in Torbaaz are the stunning snow-clad locations, the costume department and the various languages and dialects the film offers. There are quite a few other projects releasing this Friday on various streaming platforms, you may want to consider skipping Torbaaz and watching those instead.

Torbaaz aims at being a tribute to Afghan cricketers who triumphed against all odds to shine in the international arena of the sport. For their sake, the film ought to have been a more engaging effort.

Sports as unifier in a country ravaged by war is a great story that deserves an inspired telling, especially when it involves the most vulnerable section — the children. The slides at the end of the film tell us that many members of the Afghan cricket team have braved these impossible odds to shine on the 22 yards. It only makes me feel sadder about what a massive opportunity has been lost in Torbaaz.
