Still, there is something refreshing about a film that does not insist on treating espionage with reverence. Vibe is messy, occasionally overstuffed and undeniably indulgent, but it also has a distinct comic voice. It knows that its greatest asset is not the mission, the twists or even the spectacle. It is the sheer joy of watching two hopelessly unprepared friends try to survive a world that expects them to know what they are doing.They don’t. Thankfully, that is the joke.

Overall, VIBE starts off with exactly the kind of madness you want from a film like this. It is funny and doesn’t seem too bothered about following the usual rules initially. Kunal Kemmu and Sparsh Shrivastava make for an entertaining pair, and the first half has enough laughs. It is in the second half that the film loses some of that easy charm, as the story starts adding layers and twists nobody really asked for. The result is a film that is at its best when it is simply VIBE-ing. Kunal has a knack for comedy, both in front of and behind the camera. He just needs to trust that instinct a little more. There is enough wit and energy here to make you wish the film had stayed with its two bumbling heroes rather than getting lost in its own spy game.

If you aren’t watching Kunal Kemmu’s movies to laugh, then what are you even doing? Call your friends, book your ticket, grab popcorn (or maybe leave it if it’s very expensive) and go experience a full-blown laughter riot in theatres. It’s a VIBE.

By the climax, Vibe feels like several films fighting for screen space, eventually turning into a ridiculous mix of genres that delivers only patchy comedy. Instead of staying focused on its irreverent humour and absurd characters, the film trades masti for geopolitical mumbo jumbo. No wonder the vibe simply disappears.

Vibe starts on a high with a funny and entertaining first half, strong comic moments and an enjoyable combination of action and humour. Kunal Kemmu and Sparsh Shrivastav’s contrasting characters add to the film’s appeal, while the pop-culture references make some of the jokes more enjoyable. Unfortunately, the film loses steam in the second half. The stretched narrative and an illogical climax prevent Vibe from becoming a consistently engaging action comedy. There is enough humour to make parts of the film enjoyable, but the uneven second half ultimately keeps it from reaching its full potential.
