Leo, co-written by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Rathna Kumar, and Deeraj Vaidy, is loosely inspired by David Cronenbergs 2005 classic A History of Violence. The epithet Thalapathy usually precedes his name it means leader or commander. However, Leo co-writer and director Lokesh Kanagaraj, who previously made Master with Vijay, aims to broaden the scope of mythic heroism in a mass movie.

Though the whole LCU part looks forced, one can say that with Leo, Lokesh has a strongest shot in his arm for the next franchise. Lokesh and Vijays Leo is a lot bloody than sweet. Leos roar may not be at its peak here, but, hey! it is still a Lion!

Lokesh boldly begins Leo by acknowledging it as a tribute to David Cronenbergs 2005 actioner A History of Violence. What sets Leo apart is that it isnt reduced to a mere imitation of the original, instead Lokesh adapts the storyline to fit the essence of Tamil/Indian aesthetics, thereby constructing a distinctive world.

Commercial films, these days, fall into two categories. They’re either too good or so bad that’s it good. When a commercial film is tastefully done, the euphoria you feel inside the theatre is unexplainable. Thats exactly what you feel when you watch director Lokesh Kanagarajs Leo. With a career-best performance from Vijay and brilliant filmmaking, Leo is a paisa vasool entertainer.

All said and done, this is the Thor: Love And Thunder of LCU. It had everything steering its way, but Lokesh took everything too casually to let everything slip.

All said and done, this is pure entertainment fodder for Vijay fans and one should rightfully expect the same from it. But if youre looking for a solid storyline this one is not for you. Far from roaring, Leo just squeaks past for its few moments of some action sequences and Vijays terrific screen presence.

This will be yet another hit to Lokesh’s winning streak. Leo will also go down as the least original work among Lokesh’s works till date

On the whole, Lokesh Kanagaraj opts for a simple and straightforward storyline in Leo which is of course strung out of History Of Violence, but the film is a decent ride on the whole which starts off so well but does not match the second half to the first. Leo is definitely worth a watch on the big screens, but it is an opportunity that could have been better.

Cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa elevates the films overall appeal, infusing freshness with slick and high-quality visuals. However, the editing by Philomin Raj could have been significantly improved, especially in the second half. The writing and the quality of Telugu dubbing are satisfactory.
