Muschietti also lends a captivating view of the film’s action with camerawork that follows sequences to bring a vital sense of direction and scale. However, the weakest element in ‘The Flash’ is its seemingly slapdash CGI. Besides the scenes with the two Barrys, a crucial plot device requires extensive VFX, which looks amiss. It indicates the story undergoing multiple changes without much time to work on this critical element. Irrespective, the cloud-pleasing moments are aplenty for old and new fans.

Aesthetically and tonally uneven, The Flash is a patchy affair that falls back on the actors to rescue it from the tedium created by the unsteady juggling of predictable, overworn devices. Ezra Miller’s performance is just about adequate. It does not exactly crackle with energy. The fetching Sasha Calle, the first Latina to play Supergirl, is only a pale shadow of the DC character that could once upon a time genuinely excite audiences.

The movie gives out a strong message that not every problem has a solution and there are things in life that you have to let go. This compelling story is what makes the crux of the film and is beautifully delivered by Muschietti. The surprises don’t end here though. The film’s climax and post credit scene feature two very big cameos. Overall, the film has opened the multiverse of possibilities for DC, and let’s hope that the following movies raise the stakes higher.

Despite having fun throughout, The Flashisn’t flawless, especially in its final act. But Miller as the eponymous superhero is clearly having fun, and so are the other key characters that wouldn’t think twice before giving what the viewers want. It’s all unabashed entertainment peppered with nostalgia. It could be a great weekend at the movies, with Prabhas’ Adipurushon one hand and this DC offering on the other. It’s all about the good overpowering the evil in cinemas this week, at least in the movies. Life’s reality checks can wait.

All said and done, this take on multiverse by DC is trippy, fresh and more ‘comic’y serving not only to the Flash fans but also to every comic book lover ever.

Nonetheless, in 2023, amidst the glut of people with powers, despite having every familiar origin story trope and multiversal machinations, we get a superhero movie that doesn’t have you walk away feeling jaded and grumpy. Despite the comic book-inspired assembly line we get year after year, to have a spandex spectacle that actually takes you on an emotionally-charged journey and allows you to forget yourself, if even for a moment? Now that’s a superpower I could get behind.

The film’s screenplay is tailored well to make you laugh and be consumed by slapstick comedy, action and electrifying energy. However, it loses steam in the final stretch. If The Flash was not crafted for the multiverse crossover, perhaps it would have come across as a better film.
