On the whole, Phone Bhoot is a well-written, well-enacted and well-made entertaining film which should do well in the good multiplexes and high-end single-screen cinemas of the big cities on the strength of youngsters and high gentry. But the inherent reluctance of the public to come to the cinemas for films like this (which can be consumed on OTT platforms) will adversely affect its box-office takings which, in the final tally, may be far less than merited. Its business in mass centres, of course, will be dull for the reasons mentioned above.

Phone Bhoot starring Katrina Kaif, Siddhant Chaturvedi & Ishaan Khatter and directed by Gurmmeet Singh is one of those comedies in which the makers throw everything at the screen, desperately hoping that something sticks sadly little does.Phonebooth plot holds little relevance its just a scaffolding to hang film references , PJs , farciacal humour and puns. Phonebooth is sincere and dedicated to delivering a good time and yet is forgettable

Phone Booth isn’t an earth-shattering, game-changing deal for the genre but it has the feel of a full-on mad hatters’ party where everything goes. It isn’t the least bit apologetic about it. That is the film’s principal strength. Pulling it off is anything but easy, as the many missteps in the film’s zany arc show, but the caper does not run itself ragged. That, by all reckoning, should be counted as a success. Recommended but with a minor health warning: Phone Bhoot isn’t for all palates.

Phone Bhoot would be a lot more memorable if it wasn’t merely a costume ball doffing its hat at Hollywood, Bollywood, Fukrey, Thalaivaa, a heroine who drinks mango juice like few can or a hero who can’t stop playing his flute.

Gurmmeet Singh’s Phone Bhoot, written by Ravi Shankaran and Jasvinder Singh Bath, is an eclectic, out-of-the-box comedy. Reminiscent of films like Andaz Apna Apna, the characters take their situations and themselves very seriously. That paves the way for humour which is embedded neatly into the screenplayOverall, Gurmmeet Singh puts out a unique horror comedy which is a departure from most material one has seen in the year so far. For that itself this one deserves a visit to the theatre.

I wish the first half of Phone Bhoot made me laugh, and the second half which is outrageously quirky was plotted more cleverly. The film hurtles towards a messy climax and that is where the problem lies. Overall, this is a film that will tickle every palate but if you want to destress from the entire week’s workload, you can give it a shot.

Someone must have thought this one line idea — two guys having some fun and games with a sizzling female ghost — was worthy of being made. As someone shaken and stirred, not in a good way at all, while suffering through the excruciatingly unfunny ‘Phone Bhoot’, can I please just say that that first someone was wrong. So, so wrong.

Overall, don’t let the ‘bhoot’ mislead you with nothing bhootiya about this story, had the makers tried to push the envelope, the idea could have been outstanding for a bhootiya comedy.

Phone Bhoot could’ve been a creative attempt to deliver a quirky horror-comedy flick if not for the writing faltering heavily in the second half. However, watch this one for magnetic screen presence of Katrina Kaif, Ishaan Khattar and Siddhant Chaturvedi. We give the film 3 out of 5 stars.
