The plan turns out to be elaborate, and as unexpected as it was in Drishyam. However, in its execution, it is not as smooth, requiring an incredulous breach of basic protocols by police, which would lead any competent judge to throw the case out, as well as a string of much-too-gullible people around Vijay. The remarkable change in his fortunes adds to the whiff of notoriety about him now.

Speaking of anticipation, Georgekutty’s excessive dependency on Murphy’s law for his schemes is why Drishyam 2 always feels more designed than organic. In its Hindi counterpart, Vijay harps about man writing his own destiny yet believes way too much in serendipity. There’s a potential third film in the works and we can only wonder what new Plan B Georgekutty and, like it or not, Vijay Salgaonkar have in mind.

There’s a thing about Ajay Devgn films that all you cinephiles will admit. The man doesn’t need hard-hitting dialogues to garner claps and hoots. Expressions and walk hi kaafi hain! The same applies in Drishyam 2 as well. However, the film has some interesting bits too that do deserve a chance in the theatres. But the question is, will you?

Before I start to pour my heart out regarding what’s good & bad about the film, let’s make one thing clear: this is a remake & when I praise certain things about it, the actual credit should go to Jeethu Joseph for achieving that back in 2021. I especially gave the disclaimer because of kudos to Jeetu for maintaining the continuity of the narrative. Ajay‘s version also benefits a lot from the goods of the OG but it’s the unnecessary additions that spoiled the party for me.
