Poojai  Tamil Movie Reviews

The problem with Poojai is not that it’s a commercial, formulaic film, but that it is no Saamy or Singam. Poojai, despite not being Hari’s best, could still be successful in the B and C centres, and affirm his bankability. The writing is generally not well thought out though. It seems almost like groups of imperfect scenes were put together in the hope that they’d somehow come together to form a riveting, entertaining whole. Poojai then is a refutation of Aristotle’s adage that states that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

As for the noticeable minuses, the film has a torrent of juvenility in terms of scene design, particularly the intro sequences of the central characters. However, once the main story gets going, all is forgotten and the director takes us through a roller coaster in the first half. But it feels like Hari loses the grip post interval a bit and the film plods in the second half, with misplaced song sequences and repetitive action blocks. All said and done, Poojai is still a watchable entertainer to spend time on, with your family on a festive day. Verdict: Watchable typical Hari-formula emotional action drama

Director Hari sticks to his basics and comes up with yet another film on the same lines as his previous ones. Poojai has some interesting moments here and there, but the excitement is brought down with the insertion of forced comic sequences and unwanted melodrama. Had the director concentrated on bringing in some more brain into the script, the film would have ended up becoming a racy tale to watch. Right now, it just ends up being a commercial entertainer to watch if you have nothing else to do.

Poojai has everything across genres – romance, comedy, sentiments, action and drama. The romance is underwhelming, action is mind-numbing but the drama and sentiments around the larger extended family have worked reasonably well. Overall, Poojai is a no-holds-barred action drama let down by a predictable, unexciting writing.

Vishal’s films have not been doing well in Telugu in the past few years. Pooja will come as a breather to Vishal as this film is a decently executed mass film with enough commercial elements. Plus points of the film are Vishal, direction and commercial elements. Being the solo big release for Diwali festival, Pooja has chances to become a hit like Pandem Kodi in Telugu career of Vishal.
