Director Vijay very subtly tries to put across his message of promoting animal welfare and encouraging vegetarianism in the film. The large cast, which includes people of all ages and varied traits, has given Vijay ample scope to squeeze in a lot of fun, romance and sentiments. Good dialogues, great characterisation with opportunities for everyone to prove themselves, plenty of humour and a light-hearted romance makes this family drama an extremely engaging affair.A film worth watching.

The end credits say that Vijay adopted vegetarianism following one such event, based on which Saivam is made. However, the problem with Saivam is that the event depicted isn’t a strong enough reason for the audience to follow suit. And the movie’s running time of just around 2 hours is a plus on paper, but it still feels a tad longer. Verdict: Saivam takes us back to what the director is best at – family and bonding

. In his latest film ‘Saivam’ which is also his father A.L.Azhagappan’s production venture the director has gone back to our traditional roots and tried to highlight the beauty and importance of family relationships. He has also spoken about man-animal relationship and tried to convey a message favoring vegetarianism and concern for animal welfare. A feel good film that makes you feel good for most parts.

At a time when slapstick senseless comedies and thrillers are dished out week after week, ‘Saivam’ with a simple story of life in a village, a bitter-sweet tale of human frailties that delivers the goods. Vijay is aided by a terrific cast that doesn’t miss a beat. Give it a chance, it’s simple, uncomplicated storytelling and curious concept will leave a smile on your face.It has qualities that you don’t find in movies too often these days: a heart, charm and grace.
