On the whole, Vanvaas is a very boring fare which will not cut ice with the public. Neither the family audience nor the youth will appreciate the film which will prove to be a non-starter in the final tally.

The film is laden with melodrama and feels overstretched, with average songs that fail to leave a mark. However, the cinematography by Kabir Lal beautifully captures the essence of Varanasi. The motivation behind the sons’ decision to abandon their father remains underexplored, leaving a gap in the narrative. While the helplessness of Patekar’s character stirs empathy and brings a lump to your throat, it falls short of delivering the emotional catharsis of films like ‘Baghban.’ Director Anil Sharma’s intentions are genuine, but the execution feels underwhelming, lacking the sharpness needed to truly resonate.

Like Ramayana’s story of good sons and bad stepmothers and vanvaas, this tale is a Bollywood evergreen: of parents abandoned and left desolate by their children in old age.

Vanvaas is well-intentioned, but it will surely have a tough time, fighting mass entertainers Pushpa 2 and Baby John in theatres

Overall, it is quite disappointing to go for a Nana Patekar film and return without having a single element that makes you want to remember his films. Anil Sharma, who played the safe cards with Vanvaas, has landed up presenting a quite below-par film that cannot be saved even by Nana Patekar.

In a bid to make Vanvaas the new-age Baghban, director Anil Sharma misses out on adding a basic human touch. Weak character sketches are further marred by overacting. The intention behind Vanvaas is honest but the clumsy treatment robs off its true flavours. Despite the vibrant colours, it is a hard and bitter pill to swallow.

Overall, ‘Vanvaas’ impresses because of Nana Patekar and Utkarsh Sharma as well as some good scenes, but the pace and the additional cast make it a bit tiresome. If the film was sped up and some of the parallel stories were removed, it could have been a much better experience.

In summary, Vanvaas is a compelling showcase for Nana Patekar’s talent, but its uneven execution and excessive length dilute the overall impact.
