Director Subhash Kapoor’s Jolly LLB did well with its droll depiction of a small-time lawyer (played by Arshad Warsi) and how his guilty conscience encourages him in emancipating the downtrodden. But his quick-witted sequel starring a standout Akshay Kumar does it even better. The needless song and dances, the somewhat preachy lessons in secularism and a lumbering episode featuring a stiff Sayani Gupta are first to come to mind. Except it’s a criticism that’s gladly washed away by the pungency at which Jolly LLB 2 scorns at the intense rot eating up a noble profession without compromising on the inherent rascality of its titular character.

Subhash Kapoor’s screenplay is intelligent. The best part of his screenplay is that it doesn’t let go of the humour till the very end. The light scenes in the courtroom are so funny that they make the courtroom drama entertaining and enjoyable. On the whole, Jolly LL.B 2 is an enjoyable entertainer which will definitely do well at the box-office and will keep the audience and the investors happy.

Jolly LLB 2 is the kind of film Hindi cinema used to make at a time when its primary activity was to tell a rousing tale, using star power to embellish it. This sequel of Jolly LLB, infinitely superior to the first, brings back the joys of watching a movie with a solid plot, a strong sense of time and place and rhythm, and a confidence in itself that has been missing from Bollywood. Yes, there a few dips, and some slips, but on the whole, this Akshay Kumar-starrer is a win.Jolly LLB 2 is a cracking watch, despite its few squelchy parts. Aur yeh lock kiya jaaye, mi’lord.

Jolly LLB also, tangentially, brings into its purview the vexed theme of young Muslim men falsely implicated in cases of terrorism and not given a chance in hell by a police and a media all too eager to brand and hang them.  If all this sounds too solemn for a mass entertainer, do not be put off. Jolly LLB 2 does well not to take itself too seriously. It has the feel of a good-natured banter between friends rather than that of an inflated inquest conducted from a pedestal. Scintillating? No. Enjoyable? Absolutely.

On the face of it, apna Jolly is a novice indulging in petty crimes because he knows the loopholes in the law. But these are just asides and not the main premise of courtroom drama, which in many ways follows the template of the 2013 prequel, Jolly LLB.Akshay changes shades from crooked to straight, like a chameleon. In top-form, he puts up a perfect display of a street-smart lawyer who hasn’t read legal tomes but who has instead picked up tips from courtroom corridors to become Jolly LLB. Huma and Annu are also compelling enough. It is the fine display of histrionics by all these refined actors, which makes the movie, worth seeing.

But what works perfectly is the focus on real issues like corruption, terrorism and under-pressure judges. Kapoor has tackled all these issues with a great control. He has induced small, funny moments at crucial junctures that work as perfect breathers. Thanks to his understanding of court procedures, his characters look human and vulnerable unlike typical Bollywood films where the protagonist plays the victim and the judge.

What works in the film’s favour is the realistic setting that’s peppered with fast-paced satirical humour. On the whole, JOLLY LLB 2 comes across as a powerful courtoom drama which is laced with humour as well as emotions. With Akshay Kumar’s star power, positive word of mouth and almost zero competition at the box office, JOLLY LLB 2 has the potential to grow huge at the box office. A must watch.

Jolly LLB’s sharp dialogue and a strong cast is what makes this film a stunner. Not a dull single dull moment here. Akshay Kumar fans and Jolly LLB fans both will be satisfied with this film that has a mix of comedy, emotion and some serious commentary on judiciary system.Jolly LLB 2 is entertaining as well as hard hitting. Saurabh Shukla is a stunner while Akshay is once again at his best. A 3/5 for this film.

Jolly LLB addresses many issues; terrorism, corruption, government officials’ apathy and does a fair job of it. But it’s a Hindi film. It has to crack jokes; after all it’s an Akshay Kumar massy film yaar. So like most Hindi films, it runs on two parallels; an important murder case and a bunch of jokes that have little or no relevance in the film. If the film focused on the crime, without trying too hard to make it easy-breezy and crack jokes that don’t have much context to the film, it would have made for a far more compelling story. But who am I kidding? The film will work anyway. It has Akshay Kumar, funny one liners and a Holi song. There I can already see a blockbuster written all over it!

Akshay Kumar’s satirical courtroom drama, Jolly LLB2, has its heart in the right place but it is as long-winded as the trials in Indian courts. It’s the pacing that’s a let down and there are moments when the thrilling bits of the case feels overly stretched. Perhaps, shaving off those bits would have helped.Watch this if you are in the mood for a legal drama, albeit a long, arduous one.

When Jolly LLB part one released I was quite excited to watch it. At the end of the movie I was happy to see Justice being delivered and truth prevails.
With the part one very well portrayed, researched (inputs taken from real life incidents Priyadarshini Matoo case and Sanjeev Nanda Case) it went on to be critically acclaimed along with winning two national awards, making me quite eager to watch part 2.
However, my eagerness was converted to total disappointment and anger after watching the part 2 of the movie. I am very disappointed to see the judicial system shown in bad light and make a mockery.
People reach out to the court with a firm belief that if the police or the administration does not listen to them at least the court will give them a fair justice. They have faith in the judicial system. But after watching this movie I doubt whether people will still continue to have this faith and belief as the judicial is portrayed in shambles.
Some incidents as put down under which I find throws bad light on the judicial system
Scene 1: The opening of the movie where Akshay Kumar, a lawyer, helps students on the PA who are giving an exam by giving away all answers in return for money.
Scene 2: The lawyer (played by Akshay Kumar) dupes a lady of money since he wants to buy a chamber for himself. The lady commits suicide after she comes to know the truth. Should the lawyer (Akshay Kumar) be prosecuted for duping a person who then commits suicide because he was in need of money?
Scene 3: The judge is shown answering personal calls and talking to his daughter in front of the court.
Scene 4: the judge is editing his daughter’s wedding card during the court proceedings.
Scene 5: the judge is shown rehearsing for his daughter’s wedding on a particular song wearing fancy sunglasses.
I look at all these scenes as making a mockery of the judge who has been give the power to deliver justice and the judicial system in which the people of the country have faith that justice would be delivered. An effort to amuse and entertain the audience has failed miserably.
In the climax of the movie the defense lawyer (played by Anu Kapoor) is shown sitting on a “dharna “for the simple reason that he was denied adjournment of the case to another date. Frustrated by this act even the judge joins in with the advocate. What is the point being delivered in the scene?
The least the makers could have done was to show how hard the judges at every level of the court work so that there is not much delay in the court proceedings rather than showing them in such bad light and making a mockery of the same.
At the end I felt it is nothing but a badly researched effort to show how justice prevails in the judicial system and a Judge is wholly victimized.
