For most part of its 88-minute running time, the terrific (and terrifying) home-invasion thriller Don’t Breathe grabs your attention and refuses to let go. I can’t remember the last time I got through an entire film without once looking at my phone.I’m going with three-and-a-half out of five for Don’t Breathe. Make sure you empty your bladder before the lights go down.

In the beginning, I didn’t like these kids much. I was feeling sorry for this elderly man, protecting his stash of cash. But that didn’t last. Soon, I was watching with my eyes half shut and fervently praying that they make it out with at least a few body parts intact.Don’t Breathe is brutal and visceral. But the genre dictates that you don’t ask too many questions. The only thing that matters is – did you stop breathing? I did. I’m going with three-and-a-half stars.

Right from the opening frame, Don’t Breathe gets into the heart of things with an ominous scene that looks straight out of a nightmare, but yet , is real-world enough. As for the rest of the movie, imagine a twisted version of Panic Room (where Jodie Foster rocked) and a very scary home-invasion story where it’s no big deal breaking into the house, but the heart-in-your-mouth factor comes from the fact that the three cannot get out. Suffice to say that within the first few minutes of the movie, you’ll find out why it’s called Don’t Breathe. It’s fantastic. Go watch it.

Alvarez, who co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues, sets up a confrontation that at first makes it easy to root for the blind man. It’s hard not to cheer for someone who has lost his daughter and is defending all he has left. But the film turns this victim into a villain who may be even more sadistic than the kids who invaded his home.

Don’t Breathe Story:
Rocky (Jane Levy), Alex and Money are three Detroit thieves who get their kicks by breaking into the houses of wealthy people. Money gets word about a blind veteran who won a major cash settlement following the death of his only child. Figuring he’s an easy target, the trio invades the man’s secluded home in an abandoned neighborhood. Finding themselves trapped inside, the young intruders must fight for their lives after making a shocking discovery about their supposedly helpless victim.
