Biryani Tamil & Telugu Movie Review

Karthi has simply followed his copybook style of enacting his character in a casual manner without taking any extra initiative to lift himself up. It is being marketed as Yuvan’s 100th outing as a scorer, but not a single piece works either independently or to the film’s narrative. Sakthi Saravanan’s camera work deserves mention. At 149 minutes, the film should have been crisper by at least 20 minutes. Insipid stuff, to say the least.

The film does take some time to get take off despite beginning with a car chase , there are a couple of instances that are too much of a coincidence (the people with whom Sugan and Parasu have a quarrel just happen to have a Varadarajan connection, Riyaz’s cop friend Vikram having something to do with the case) and the climax gets a little convoluted as Venkat goes for a twist ending (much like in Mankatha) rather than a straight one, but the script is racy enough (in both sense of the word) that you do not mind them much.

Screen play of Venkat Prabhu is pacy and the director keeps his cards close to the chest for a larger part of the film only to keep the audience guessing till the climax. The writing is crisp, the lines are funny and the audiences are taken through a fun and suspense ride in Biriyani. To encapsulate, Venkat Prabhu’s Biriyani while adhering to the director’s recipe has humor, suspense, music, action and glamour in delectable portions resulting in a delicious product.

the film has all the ingredients of a Venkat Prabhu film. The sheer number of characters in an offbeat story with its unpredictable twists, liberally laced with humour and flavoured with great music makes Biriyani a well-packaged treat for the viewers. Though the film takes its own sweet time to get a move on, once it gathers momentum, there is no stopping till the end, where there is an exciting climax, as well as an anticlimax, in typical Venkat Prabhu style.

Through the first half the ingredients make up a commercial pot boiler and the build up to the story is slow and steady. Final say, the last 20 minutes serves the twist in the tale, and round of applause to the director to have correlated the events of 2 hours in the final climax. Verdict : Throw away the excess meat and watch, Biryani is slurp slurp!

First half of the film is slow, interval part is good. Second half is little sluggish, but the climax is good. Thrillers like these give you complete picture only in the climax. For films of this nature, runtime should be less and narration should be to-the-point. In order to cater to a larger part of audiences, the director has added love and comedy angle to it which has made the film sluggish. On a whole, Biryani is partly tasty with a good ending!.

The visually rich Biryani fails to make an impact because it lacks the necessary punch in its screenplay. The problem with Biryani is that it doesn’t capitalize on the premise it is built on. Instead, it steers away to produce yet another cheesy entertainer. I thought the first fifteen minutes of the film were entertaining, made audiences laugh and interested, but what followed after that was downright boring and proof of bad writing. Feel sorry for Karthi whose efforts seems to have gone the drain.
