Masala Telugu Movie Review

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Karthik Pasupulate Site: Times Of India (TOI)

The movie offers truckloads of such tomfoolery. Venky walks away with all the acting credits in what seems like his most over-the-top act ever and he doesn’t hold back anything. The music is silly enough to match up the madness and to get into matters like cinematography and editing would mean over analysis. Funny as it sounds, its a Rohit Shetty movie that is remade in Telugu.Note: It’s almost a frame to frame remake of Bol Bachchan, so leave your brains outside the theaters to enjoy this one to the fullest.

Venkatesh has done many comedy characters earlier, but most of them have class and middle-class family orientation. For the first time, he has done a mass comedy character (like Chiranjeevi in Shankar Dada MBBS) and comes up with an outstanding performance. The film works because of five actors (Venky, Ram, JP, Ali and MS Narayana) who generated the entertainment with the help of nice dialogues penned by Anil Ravipudi. This film lacks the finesse and class of the original as it is targeted more towards masses. On a whole, Masala is a paisa vasool movie for Venkatesh funny dialogues and JP’s reactions coupled with Ram’s balancing act!

The whole film is themed around mass confusion and the comedy that entails it. It is not the first time that such a film has been made. Many such movies have been made in the past where the hero’s identity is kept a secret from the boss and how it leads to comic incidents. But two big heroes have never come together for such a film. And that is what works in the favour of Masala. The combination of Venkatesh and Ram will surely make it special and draw audiences. Those looking for some laughs, will like Masala. For those looking for high quality comedy, Venkatesh satiates their desire with his performance. Though it’s an average film, one has to wait and watch how the audience will like it!

The director has come up with a remake storyline and while the presentation was good, the narrative was engaging in parts. The dialogues were filled with nativity, the script was interesting but the screenplay could have been tight. Background score was not that good and songs were just okay. Overall,an okay film.Nice enjoyable movie. As comedy plays a major role especially for Telugu audience, this film will get pass marks. It will run with good openings and may continue to certain extent until another big movie comes for competition. Masala is a worth watchin for all the comedy lovers.

Don stories run according to set principles and formula. Bhai movie has all those necessary ingredients. Right from character build up to punch dialogues to stylish presentation, Bhai makes a perfect entry. But later story runs on predictable terms. There are no awe inspiring moments and mind blowing scenes. We expect story to gain mood after shifting to Hyderabad. But it further dulls. We don’t understand why a gang is after Nag. Fights appear to come and go just for fights sake and not because story demands. Bhai would have been a perfect watch if it had come a decade ago. It’s too late now.

First half of the film is very ordinary and predictable. Even interval twist can be predicted. Second half counts on the family Masala is an official remake of Rohit Shetty’s Hindi film Bol Bachchan which had Ajay, Asin, Abhishek, Prachi & Amtabh in the cast. Masala fails from the start as the comedy element didn’t work, the cast is imperfect and they don’t seem serious about their performances (leaving Venkatesh Daggubati). It is so shabbily made that you will instantly feel that director Vijaya Bhasker has lost interest in the initial parts of the film. First half of the film is draggy and second half make sures it makes audience tiresome. Masala is a wearisome entertainer, better avoid it in theatres.
