Jilla Tamil Movie Review

It looks like Vijay has realized that he can be in mass masala films that are not only entertaining to his fan base but also to every segment in the audience. As far as commercial films are concerned, Jilla is definitely assured filmmaking. Neason understands that the conflict between Sivan and Sakthi is what powers his film and sets up the initial clash between these two characters very well. The main issue with Jilla is that it is overlong. Neason, probably in an effort to make it a wholesome entertainer, keeps packing in scenes oblivious to the running time.

There is absolutely nothing in Jilla that we haven’t seen before. Besides the film is almost 3 hours long and this certainly does not work in its favour. What does work though is the presence of the two biggest names in South India today. Vijay and Mohanlal easily keep the audience entertained with their powerful performances, both equally confident and secure in their own ability, undoubtedly making the film a solid commercial entertainer for the masses.

After a lacklustre Thalaiva, Vijay has bounced back in style in Jilla, ably backed by Malayalam superstar Mohanlal. Vijay has stayed away from his cliched one-liners, and looks classy in the role of a conscious-stricken youth who rises in revolt against the evils of society. Also, director R T Neason has refrained from projecting Vijay's character as larger-than-life. Jilla is a perfect festival film that has all the trappings of a blockbuster.

At two hours and fifty minutes, Jilla is lengthy and the editor and director should have collaborated better to reduce it to make it tauter. The charismatic screen presence of Vijay and Mohanlal, few enjoyable musical tracks and comedy scenes and power packed action sequences mark Neason’s Jilla that travels on a standard template and satiates Vijay’s fans. Verdict: A commercial potboiler for the festive season made alive by Vijay and Mohanlal

Comedy, action, sentiment, emotion... you name it, the story has it. 'Jilla' keeps you entertained all through its long run time. Given the duration of the movie, 'Jilla' is so racy and entertaining that three hours don't seem that long. The film is one of those rare masala movies that has a specific importance assigned to each of the scenes. In effect, there's practically nothing in the movie that is out of place, even by chance. Delivered in a thoroughly entertaining package, 'Jilla' is a perfect Pongal entertainer, for audience of all kinds.

For the hardcore fans who thrive on the magic connect that they have with their idol, the chance to scream their throats out and to revel when their star walks in slomo to a catchy BGM - here is Jilla for you.People who like realistic movies, please stay away - Jilla may not be for you. Jilla would not disappoint people who like to soak in unadulterated masala and for the others who would watch a masala entertainer as a guilty pleasure.

Ratings:Mass Masala Entertainer Review By: MovieBuzz  Site:Sify
Tamil cinema audiences love mass hero films, which may not have logic or reason but just have the essential masala items. Vijay’s Pongal release Jilla is a typical festival fiesta, a power packed, crackling thrill ride tailor-made for fans. If you are looking out for some fun and time-pass entertainment then Mohanla and Vijay combo is sure to make your day. The film works mainly due to Mohanlal and Vijay combo. Jilla is masala entertainment and a full course meal that leaves you with a smile on your face. A perfect outing with your family this festival season.

  12. Just been to see JILLA film. Extraordinary performances. However, the film does not show any political ideology in any depth. It's a long sit though but entertaining.

  17. who is that comedian in jilla, vadivel absence is clearly visible. stupid people and useless fellows trying to become comedian. Non sense tamil industry, politics and useless directors like nasen creating noise pollution in tamil industry. GOD SAVE tamil industry and audience. Audience too becoming poor daty by day as they are being trained to watch only these type of stupid movies.

  18. Jilla is a magnum opus from the one of the leading producer R.B Choudary, with 2 biggest superstars in leading cast, what else required for a huge hype and expectations. But every expectation turned into disappointment and film fails to impress big time. Vijay was back on track after back to back hits and Mohanlal after Drishyam, when both come together in one screen lot more is expected. After not so successful debut in “Muruga” in 2007 its his second venture and yes huge burden on his shoulder to direct two big icons......

  20. vijay again without any change..a police this time. At least hair could have been trimmed. Romance in this movie is of low standard, a big zero. Kajal Agarwal comes only for songs. But one of her dialogue to Vijay is outstanding,,,"unnoda moonja kannadila paaru.. unakke athu pidikkathu". Lack of good comedy, big draw back for a masala movie like this. There are many puch dialaogues and mass bcakgrounds but all these things gets wasted because of lack of such powerful situations in story line that demands them. Sometimes u feel vijay speaks some powerful dialogue and then u start wondering why he said so for a ordinary scene,, For example.. forget it.. I dont want to recollect them
