U Turn starring Alaya F is a remake of the 2016 Kannada hit, also called U Turn. But debutant feature director Arif Khan isn’t content to merely retell the story of a makeshift divider on a flyover in a new language. He twists the film on the head and changes the plot while being original is admirable every single change makes the film worse and the execution is so feeble that I wish Arif had simply copy pasted because the original U-turn is a gripping story about Crime and Punishment

Pawan Kumar has written the story which does not hold much interest for the audience. Radhika’s job is over once she concludes that the accidents on the flyover are caused due to shifting of blocks. The entire drama of Radhika and Arjun Sinha solving the mystery of the suicides is a different story altogether. Parvez Sheikh and Radhika Anand’s screenplay is not half as engaging as it ought to have been. Even the revelation of the suspense doesn’t give the viewers a high because they couldn’t care less about the reason behind the suicides/murders. Radhika Anand’s dialogues are ordinary. On the whole, U-Turn is too dull to make much of an impact.

Director Arif Khan was well aware that the number of people not aware of U-Turn would be just a handful. Also, the original or different remakes could not be removed from OTT. So, he did not opt for a copy-paste remake. Instead, what he tried doing was using the audience’s knowledge of the original and challenge it. So, the moment one thinks that they know what’s going to happen next, the twist will catch them unaware (which is what a thriller should be like). However, this also results in several inconsistencies throughout, discussing which might result in some major spoilers. All in all, you can watch this film if you are craving a thriller, but do not keep your hopes sky high.

Overall, this mystery thriller that deals with the consequences of traffic violations adds a topical and relevant element to the story while also acting as a useful reminder to always follow the rules of the road for your own and others’ safety. Watch it!

That’s the first jarring note you discover in the Hindi remake: Chandigarh has a very specific vibe, and structure, none of which is visible in the film. The other is a story which, in its insistence on keeping the focus on the leading lady, makes everyone else’s arcs sub-par. This results in a film unable to keep a hold on the viewer.

All in all, U-Turn manages to establish itself as a fine watch, and it could definitely make it to your binge list for the weekend. In a genre that’s pretty over-crowded, this one’s not just another supernatural thriller and has its own flavour to it.

Overall, U-Turn is a brave attempt but fails to engage with its pointless twists and turns. The Alaya F-starrer will manage to keep you hooked, but only in parts. For someone who loves to watch thrillers, U-Turn will be a treat for him or her.

Arif Khan’s crime-horror thriller U Turn (on ZEE5) is so sloppily written that plot holes are left carelessly strewn around for the characters to trip over.A good idea does not often translate into a seamless script, and U Turn exemplifies this.

U-TURN is based on the 2016 Kannada film of the same name. Pawan Kumar’s original story is thrilling and also subtly informs viewers about the dangers of breaking traffic laws. Parvez Sheikh and Radhika Anand’s screenplay is fine till a certain point but the writing, after a point, is too unconvincing and defies logic. On the whole, U-TURN rests on Alaya F’s fine performance and some thrilling moments. However, the hard-to-digest developments in the climax will leave viewers disappointed big time.
