The film offers a lot of thrilling moments. On the whole, No Time To Die has a lot of merits and will do well. Of course, the general reluctance of the audience to frequent cinemas, the restricted capacity in cinemas, restrictions on night shows, etc. will take their toll on the film’s business at the box-office.

This story has everything that one expects from Daniel Craig as Bond and yet also is a tribute of sorts to the good old 007 films back in the day that starred Roger Moore and Sean Connery. There are all staples one expects from the films from the franchise, be it stunning automobiles, fancy gadgets, sci-fi twists, femme fatales, pacy action sequences and macabre villains who never fail to shock you. Of course, throw in Bond trying to rescue the world too.

For all that, No Time To Die — with no less than four screenwriters including the director himself (True Detective’s Fukunaga), old Bond hands, and the much-anticipated Phoebe Waller-Bridge addition — is much too long, much too convoluted, and much too un-Bond like. Part of the reluctance to end sooner, one suspects, has to do with the burden of saying goodbye to the actor who has moulded the character born circa World War II for the 21st century, where heroes don’t just have big hearts but also heavy ones, and wear the same on their sleeves.

A befittingly grand farewell party for Daniel Craig in his final outing as James Bond, No Time To Die has no time for half measures. It goes all out to give fans of the franchise the highs they are looking for and the actor who has stamped his class on the role since 2006’s Casino Royale gets the send-off he deserves.

It is a beautifully made film. The production design, stunts, action sequences, look and feel of each character is so carefully crafted that even when the story feels overlong, you want to continue watching. Every Bond film has stunning backdrops, remarkable frames and heart-stopping moments, and No Time to Die takes it to another breathtaking level. It is a visual and emotional treat, one that is satisfying but will leave you with a sense of incompletion in the end.

No Time to Die is a long and loving goodbye to an actor who revitalised the franchise. Now we can spend the next many years discussing the ending and placing bets on who will wear the tux and holster, and gun the Aston Martin DB5 to yet another mind-blowing adventure.

No Time to Die Story:

In 1556, Don Aguirre leads Spanish conquistadors to South America to search for Lágrimas de Cristal[b] Tree, whose flowers cure illness, heal injuries, and lift curses. After most conquistadors die, the Puka Michuna tribe heals the survivors with the Tree’s flowers. The tribal chief refuses to reveal the Tree’s location, so Aguirre stabs him and burns the village. The dying chief curses the conquistadors, making them immortal and unable to leave sight of the Amazon River; the jungle recaptures anyone attempting to escape.
