Dirty Politics Hindi Movie Review

Ratings:1.5/5 Review By:  Mohar Basu Site:Times Of India

Silly isn’t a term broad enough to encapsulate the zest of this movie. Stories like these demand a little more sensitivity but the director’s incoherence of understanding the theme make this a wasted attempt. Expect to remain unmoved by this film which tries to unleash the morally corrupt face of Indian politics. The product we have at hand, is a juvenile tryst which focuses on a s**ually charged up plot to garner good box office moolah.

Here is another maddeningly muddled Mumbai movie that sets out to lay bare the filth and sleaze that Indian politics is usually associated with in the popular imagination but only manages to whip up bushels of cinematic muck. Dirty Politics is, from end to end, a messy affair that reeks of all-round mediocrity despite the presence in the cast of actors of the calibre of Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah.

And then Sherawat is made to pull out the ‘ch…’ word from her arsenal and yell it out, when she is not crossing her legs, seated on a throne, Sharon Stone-style. And here I thought ‘gaalis’ were being excised left, right and centre. This is it, kiddies. Me, I’m off to grab the left-over `gujiyas’ and ‘thandai’.

Even though this is the veteran filmmaker K.C.Bokadia’s ‘N’th film as a director and also a writer, the sad part is that he seems to have lost the film’s plot and his directorial abilities. The film goes haywire almost in every second or third scene. Competitively, the first half is a bit bearable as compared to the second half, which goes haywire totally. On the whole, DIRTY POLITICS is a highly avoidable fare.

Dirty Politics stinks of lazy writing and stock characters. Despite a clutch of talented veteran actors, the political drama isn’t elevated to a film that reveals the dark side of human nature or the steaminess in Indian politics. If Dirty Politics were to contest in any award ceremony, it would lose unceremoniously.

An old politician discovers raging libido at 70, sets his lustful eyes on a dancer. The dancer, in turn, uses s** to frame the politician to fulfill her big political dreams. And in their silly tussle, I felt like a piece of steak mercilessly rolled over fire in that glass oven outside that Shawarma shop for hours in slow motion
