Jurassic Park 3D Movie Review

Ratings:–  Review By:  Rajeev Masand   Site:CNN IBN

There’s a scene in ‘Jurassic Park’ that’s etched in movie history – you know the one I’m talking about – ripples appearing in two glasses of water on the dashboard of a car that ominously announce the arrival of the hulking, roaring T-Rex. This scene is hyper accentuated in 3D through Steven Spielberg’s restored version of this monster movie classic that arrives in cinemas this weekend to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The 3D here isn’t gimmicky, it’s really just an excuse to celebrate this much-loved gem on the big screen once again. Amazingly, the special effects hold up even today, two decades since the film first released.

The world created in Jurassic Park is both lethal and lovely, both fearsome and fascinating. The dinosaurs still look incredibly real, 20 years after they changed the face of our cinema, and the film crackles along on its own adrenaline barely giving you time to think: but there is, fear not, more than enough time to gasp. And yeah, the 3D helps. Amazingly so. Just spend the first hour trusting in Uncle Steven and you’ll be fine. And thanks to the film not being conceptualised in 3D, the effects never pander, never look gimmicky or forced. The balance is, actually, quite brilliant.Jurassic Park was a monumental achievement. Remarkably enough, it remains as towering 20 years later. It just goes to remind us: no matter what effects bring to the table, storytellers can never be extinct.

If you’re looking for a bigger adrenalin-rush, then head to Jurassic Park 3D. Steven Spielberg’s prehistoric monster saga hasn’t lost its ability to shock and awe. I’m not sure that the 3D really adds anything but this film is a great big-screen experience. Younger children will get scared but for older ones, this is the ultimate theme-park ride. Take them!

Not only does this epic give you an adrenalin rush but the moments it leaves you breathless are far too many. Right from the top angle shots of the island to the dinosaurs captured stunningly, the cinematography is exquisite to say the least. Releasing it in 3D was just an excuse to re-release it.Even in comparison to other sci-fi films which make you reel disgustedly, Jurassic Park 3D leaves you speechless, apart from its cinematic brilliance, the film has some very relevant messages which I shall not reveal (for those who haven’t caught it even once in their lifetimes). So take some time out of your hectic schedule and catch it while it’s still playing, you won’t regret it.Verdict: Charge: Feel the T. rex chase you as you relive the magic of this 20-year-old blockbuster in 3D!
