Jeethu Joseph’s direction is not upto the mark. He has been able to neither camouflage the shortcomings of the script nor adopt an engaging enough narrative style. On the whole, The Body is a flop show and stands bleak chances at the box-office.

The Body has no scope for Bollywood-style romance but it insists on banking on plenty of it framed against the picturesque backdrops on offer in the Indian Ocean nation where the story is set. It is the sort of thriller in which unconcealed wickedness and brazen displays of physical passion would have worked infinitely better than the treacly love ditties. The man does share moments of intimacy with the two women – the screenplay brings out the marked differences between the two relationships with some clarity – but they do not serve to underscore the intensity of the emotions that drive Ajay to resort to measures that can only cause trouble

There’s enough meat in the story for it to have been an engaging thriller. But it’s been a while since I watched such an inept film. Everything in it is flat: the plot, the performers, the alleged twists. And that must have taken some doing, given that the filmmakers had a ready-made plot to dip into.

Just like all other Emraan Hashmi films, the music of this movie – mostly love ballads – does not disappoint and the catchy numbers are soothing to the ears. In a nutshell, ‘The Body’ is low on content and high on glamour. There is not much to unravel in this one.

A compact film, kept afloat by the background music (Clinton Cerejo), moody lighting, camerawork (Satheesh Kurup) and the interplay between a handful of characters. Kapoor and Hashmi play off each other in a twisted vengeance story that ends abruptly. Unfortunately, and not unlike the original, The Body places more emphasis on answering the question of why rather than how.

All said and done, The Body is a dull mysterious thriller in which the mystery unfolds when you care the least about it. It plays with your mind in a bad way to fill it with cluttered chaos. One and a half stars!

THE BODY has a non-linear narrative and that keeps the interest going to an extent. However the first 10 minutes prove that the execution is not upto the mark. The film has some interesting moments but are not helmed well. On the whole, THE BODY is a dry and boring thriller. At the box office, it will turn out to be a flop.
