A godfather-esque figure, a defiant family member, a gang of obedient followers, hundreds of people coming for help and enemies looking for a way to end this reign, and an heir apparent Not a new story for sure. With Janatha Garage, it has become pretty evident that NTR has chosen a path for himself. Away from the rut of formulaic commercial cinema, at a distance from the “accepted” form of entertainment, he’s daring to look at himself in a new avatar. This Janatha Garage might give everyone a hand in repairs but they need a wee bit of repair themselves for sure. But that’s no reason to miss the film.

First half of the film runs in a passive mode till the leads meet at interval. Second half has a few engaging scenes, but becomes flat as climax approaches. A film of this type (lacking entertainment (comedy) and glamour (romance)) needs an extremely good emotional impact to work well with audiences. Plus points of the film are NTR, Mohanlal and characterizations. On the flipside, an engaging conflict point and emotionally charged climax/pre-climax is missing. We have to wait and see how this film coming from a director of two blockbusters and an actor who delivered two good recent films fare at box office!

The first half of the movie stresses on hero and his attitude of protecting the nature, while the second half focuses on the family issues. This mish-mash doesn’t work perfectly.But the major issue of the movie is the story of Koratala Siva which is not at all new. All in all, the movie can be watched for some moments in the second half and NTR’s terrific performance. Not a good movie but not totally bad either.

This movie begins with the evolution of Janatha Garage with the backup of an educated one in the family. It occupies roughly half an hour which sets the pace of the movie and introduce the basic emotion on which movie runs.  Second half unleashes actor NTR and writer Koratala at the same time.Kudos NTR and Koratala Siva for making a content driven film putting all the calculations aside. To summarise, Janatha Garage is a hat-trick for NTR Jr and Koratala Siva!!

On the whole, Janatha Garage is not your regular popcorn entertainer which Tollywood churns out every week. It is a character-driven film where the onus is on serious emotions. Though NTR performs brilliantly, Mohan Lal gets a prominent role and this might not go well with NTR’s fans. The film will appeal to the general audience more than the fans. Finally, if you ignore the predictable story line, you may give this film a shot. But keep your expectations in check.

Janatha Garage is an author-backed story that has been told with conviction. In Telugu, rarely we see movies in which strong characterizations overpower the stardom and Janatha Garage is one such movie. This movie becomes more intense when such characterizations are backed by brilliant actors such as Mohanlal and NTR. These two blessed artists, with their screen presence and acting prowess, will be appreciated by one and all in this movie.
