First Day Friday PK Box Office Collection:
26.63 Crore ( Producer figure)
26.61 Crore ( Trade figure)
PK had a huge $967,152 gross on its First day at USA and Canada Box Office.
PK also collected a record highest ever gross box office collection of AUD 161,857 (USD 132,108) across 34 screens from Australia.
PK also had a huge opening in North America
Budget: 90 Crores
For a Non Holiday these numbers are pretty good and PK is highest Non Holiday starter of 2014
PK is 6th Highest Opening Day of all Time below Happy New Year, Dhoom 3, Singham Returns, Ek Tha Tiger and Chennai Express as per trade.
PK is second highest non holiday starter ever behind Dhoom 3
However this is below trade expectation which was looking for an opening in 30 crore+ range which Aamir’s dhoom 3 did last year also on a non holiday
However PK is expected to do well in the longer run as it is a word of mouth movie.
PK was very good in metros but struggled in single screens and mass centers.
PK has not done well in UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, MP and Gujarat single screens
Single screens look for hit music or action to take an opening which was absent in the movie.
Multiplexes in all metros were best of 2014.
The ticket prices in metros being highest helped PK in collecting well.
PK First day is almost double of what 3 Idiots did on its opening day in 2009.
Budget: 90 Crores (not including Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani’s fee.
Production Budget: 75 Crores + 15 Crores (print and advertising cost)
The budget is low compared to other biggies as both Aamir and Rajkumar Hirani have taken very small amount as fee and are on profit sharing.
Distributing studio will also have a very low commission as all of them were very confident of content and expect to make money in longer period
