Dhoom 3 the highest grossing Hindi film worldwide opened in China on July 25 with a very wide release across 400 chinese cities.
With approximately 4.23% of all screenings over the weekend, Dhoom 3 grossed RMB 8.48 million (US$1.35 million) Or equivalent to Rs 8.1 Crore on its first weekend in China.
It was number 9 on Chinese box office Top 10 list for the weekend
This brings Dhoom 3 Overseas gross to $29.4 Million and Dhoom 3 Worldwide gross to Rs 530 Crores all of which are record for hindi movies
This is higher than 3 idiots which had opened to $1.15 Million in its first 4 days.
3 Idiots is the highest grossing hindi movie in China with a $3 Million gross
China is world’s second largest market after USA for movies but is very tough to enter because Chinese government has capped the number of foreign releases in the country at 34 a year so that local films are encouraged .
Of these, almost 90 per cent are Hollywood films so very few Indian movies open in this market.
