Jai Ho Music Review

Ratings:2/5 Review By: IANS Site:Times of India (TOI)

The album has nine tracks, including two remixes, but the composers’ efforts are nothing to write home about. The album starts with “Baki sab first class hai”, sung by Wajid. The song is good and relatable, but it’s more like a speech given during a rally – the only difference is that it has music. The concept of creating a remix version of anything and everything should be avoided. There is nothing good about it and it is a waste of time and effort. Overall, the “Jai Ho” album has its ups and downs.

Though it isn’t exactly the best that Sajid-Wajid have offered for many a Salman film in the past, and the overall punch isn’t as high impact either, Tere Naina is still the kind of song that can be termed as a safe outing. Written by Shabbir Ahmed, this one could make a great impact if it appears at various points in the film’s narrative, especially during the interval and later around the climax. One expected the music of Jai Ho to suit Salman Khan’s personality. And that is exactly what it does.

Summing up, the album of JAI HO has some nice songs, some situational, others romantic. However that one chartbuster (sometimes even two!) that’s always present in all Salman Khan-Sajid-Wajid albums is missing here. ‘Baki Sab First Class Hai’ and ‘Jai Ho’ title track are our picks. However even without chartbusters, Salman Khan’s JAI HO will certainly open to packed houses when it releases all over on 24th January 2014.

Jai Ho‘s music has no novelty. Not that we go in expecting innovativeness from the music of a Salman Khan film but Sajid-Wajid has never disappointed us so much. Using the most tested and successful beats of their previous works, the music director duo did not have one interesting song to offer in terms of beats, words or rhythm. In times when ‘Gandi Baat’ is the most popular lyrics of the year and disappointing melodies are becoming a norm, Jai Ho merely piles on to the long list of extremely mediocre songs. Though Salman’s films run on his star value, the music shows very little promise in translating the same formula of success.
