Just when you think you’ve had enough of rural love stories that have heroes taking up aruvaals at every turn, or urban superheroes who bash up a hundred goons to save their grandmothers, comes a film like Studio Green’s Attakathi (Paper Knife).The film directed by Pa Ranjith (director Venkat Prabhu’s erstwhile assistant), looks at youth and romance in a most refreshing way.Though Attakathi’s second half drags a little, there’s no doubt that Attakathi is well worth your time and patronage.

The standout aspect of Attakathi is its light hearted treatment. Most of the scenes make you smile even though the story as such is minuscule. The scenes are also repetitive as there are so many episodes in the bus. That said, the karate episode in the first half stands out for its solid humor. But just when we feel that the movie is resolving on a familiar path, we get a pleasant shock. Watch out for that.To conclude, Attakathi will make a mark among the young male populace due to the subject. It is realistic; light hearted and turns out to be quite a ride, with its share of speed bumps.

Debutant Pa.Ranjith’s Attakathi is refreshing and something different in story and treatment. It is a slice of life look at an ordinary guy’s progression from a gawky youngster to a matured man during his college days.Let us warn you that Attakathi is slow in parts and the story seems stretched. The climax is predictable and not entirely convincing. But we recommend that you make time for this charming little treat of a film, as it has an inherent sweetness and honesty that will stay with you.

All the artistes are newcomers, but still they manage to give their best. The movie is away from mad crowd of commercial cliches. More of Kalavani meeting Chennai 28, it is entertaining and engaging.Three cheers to Studio Green for presenting an entertaining fare. The film is breezy cool. Loaded with fun and gaana songs are entertaining. Ranjith deserves a pat for his effort.
