Dhoni Telugu Movie Review

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Pavithra Srinivasan Site:Rediff

Prakashraj excels in the fast-paced first half, pouring emotions, humour and embarrassment into every situation, from buying vegetables, wandering around wearing a helmet, and begging his son’s school principal to give him another chance. He brings the slightly rotund, hapless, middle class man to life as he harangues against an education system that will not let his child excel in what he wants. The minus, if anything, is that he is very much the same as he has been in every movie before this, and offers nothing new. Akash Puri fits the bill. The second half gets slightly tedious with its platitudes and overt emotion and the very predictable turn of events but maybe that’s inevitable in a feel-good movie.Dhoni is definitely worth a watch.

In this plot, there is an anguish to show the limitations in education system but director might have took that anguish as a revolutionary blow on society. Prakash Raj didn’t carve the plot in such away to build emotion among audience. How a father feels when his son goes to coma was not shown effectively. But as a producer and actor he did 100 percent justice to the film.On a whole the plot is good but the execution part lacked conviction. The film that goes on right track in entire first half got derailed in the secord part. The required emotion lacked in large part. The film neither makes audience carry an emotional feel nor makes them think towards a solution deeply. The film proved successful in raising the point but failed in giving solution. It’s a good attempt but not a good film.Bottomline: Don’t build expectations with the title

Dhoni is a predictable story right from the outset. We know what it is going to offer from the trailers itself. What counts is how the story was narrated. Prakash Raj has only half succeeded in getting his narration correct. First half of the film is really good with some good humor sprinkled here and there. Prakash Raj sets the right atmosphere for a middle class family and he has brought the life in to the film with natural scenes. At times we feel like we are watching our neighbor’s or our own life on screen. However, the story gets too complicated at the interval point.Dhoni failed to live up to the cause that it was made for. On a whole it is a good attempt that fails to get the message right.Dhoni can be watched once for the intentions it was made. A better second half with heart touching moments might have done wonders to it.
