Kya Yahi Sach Hai Movie Review

Ratings:2.5/5 Reviewer:Nikhat Kazmi Site:Times Of India

Based on a true story, Kya Yahi Sach Hai showcases the life and experiences of director Y.P. Singh who had to undergo a traumatic professional life due to his integrity and principles.this film too which does have an earnest officer battling all the drug barons, bribe takers, boardroom sharks in his own silent and serious way. But the rest of the film is one long ear-shattering experience that makes you cringe now and then. Watch if you are interested in an officer’s fight against corruption, specially in the age of Anna.

Sometimes you feel bad about the filmmakers who take up good subjects but fail to accomplish the task with fineness. Director YP Singh’s ‘Kya Yahi Sach Hai’ is one of those films where technical glitches mar the core issue. The list of flaws in ‘Kya Yahi Sahi Hai’ could go on and on but the film is successful in its message. More than an IPS officer’s struggle against the corrupt police force, this is an overview of the whole bureaucratic system which breaks the courage and dilutes the idealism of an honest officer. The film may not be a great piece of art but ‘Kya Yahi Sach Hai’ will hopefully bring to you the subtle nuances of the corrupt Indian administrative system.

The story of Kya Yahi Sach Hai had previously cost a senior bureaucrat his job, another senior bureaucrat her honour and forced scores of other bureaucrats and politicians to look for places to hide. The story of this film had previously cost a senior bureaucrat his job, another senior bureaucrat her honour and forced scores of other bureaucrats and politicians to look for places to hide. The book that this Kya Yahi Sach Hai is based on (Carnage by Angels by YP Singh) is till date the only book which has arguably blown the lid off the state of affairs of the then Mahrashtra and how politicians blackmail senior bureaucrats and lure them with plum postings. The film is so real that it shouldn’t have been a commercial film. This film should have been more of a plain narrative. The film, of course, fails in every department of an out-an-out commercial film – the photography is weak, the effects below par, some actors are weak and editing very shoddy. But the story of the film is what you cannot not see.

The story of Kya Yahi Sach Hai is predictable, but an effort to not preach or teach anything while narration is commendable. Also, an attempt at trying to make a real movie adds few brownie points. However, an extremely dragged storyline makes the attempt tasteless. Few scenes are an evidence of making the narration filmy and make you wonder about the overemphasized display of situations. The director has tried to be loyal to his intentions, however, poor characterisations and below average acting take away the chance from the director to grab attention. An over stretched narration of every scene makes the movie a dull affair A predictable and long-drawn-out storyline is one of the biggest drawbacks of Kya Yahi Sach Hai. However, a true attempt to make a different flick could be a reason to watch it.
