Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara! Music (Songs) Review

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Bryan Durham Site:TimesOfIndia (TOI)
At just four tracks, brevity seems to be the soul of the Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara soundtrack. Javed Bashir's rugged voice gets aashiqana with the very traditional Ye Tune Kya Kiya. Also, for fans of the franchise, there's a musical nod to Pee Loon from the first movie woven into the song.

Ye Tune Kya Kiya is a well-tuned qawalli, where Pritam shows us what he is capable of. Rajat Aroraa's lurics are terrific, his words are rooted to the core and Pritam's composition further ensures that the essence of a quintessential 'qawalli' is maintained right through it's five minute duration. What adds authenticity are Javed Bashir's vocals that gel well with the overall flow of the song. A winner. Ye Tune Kya Kya and Tu Hi Khwahish are instant winners in the making. If we ignore Tayyab Ali, the rest are good enough to be played on loop.

On the whole, the audio of OUATIM DOBAARA might not exactly match up to its predecessor (OUATIMD) in terms of musical content, yet it does deliver and our favourites , 'Ye Tune Kya Kiya' followed by 'Tu Hi Khwahish', spell the mantra for the success of the album. The huge hype and good music will surely prove beneficial when the film opens to packed houses all over on Independence Day.

The album succeeds in all respects, since it features a remake, a retro song, and two gems, and manages to fit with the film’s tone and mood of the 80s where kitsch was in and music was going through a transition towards disco and synth fever! Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai Dobaara is a good album that manages to stick to its winning formula with some gems that will live on after Shoaib is occupied by another actor after Emraan, and Akshay.
