With Bangarraju, Kalyan Krishna picks up where he left off with Soggade Chinni Nayana. While he attempts to connect the threads to both films, he forgets to inject some freshness in a done and dusted script. The film relies heavily on Akkineni fans’ excitement at seeing Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya together in one frame. All in all Bangarraju might take the story of Soggade Chinni Nayana forward, but the film pales in comparison to its predecessor. And that makes it a passable watch this Sankranthi.

In the original film, Bangarraju comes back in the form of a soul to help his son. He does the same, but this time to help his grandson. Even the villain (Sampath) is the same. It is like watching the new version of “Soggade Chinni Nayana”. But “Soggade Chinni Nayana” had many fun moments. The track between Nagarjuna and Lavanya was entertaining. Bangarraju as a rural Casanova was in elements in that film. “Soggade Chinni Nayana” was a well-packaged family entertainer. But the latest version is lacking such entertainment. The entire first half of the film gives a feel of a rushed product

Bangarraju is made as a sequel of Soggade Chinni Nayana, but the movie sticks to the original theme with minimal changes. The basic plot of Bangarraju’s soul entering the son’s body in the first part is brought back only this time he enters his grandson’s body to set many things right. Other than that, the baddies attempting to steal the temple wealth and a villain in disguise of a gentleman and many crucial parts remain the same.

Kalyan Krishna returns to direction after a gap. The good thing for him is that he is back in his familiar zone and safety net of the Akkineni’s. It shows in Bangarraju, where he engages (passably) despite a routine premise quite unlike his previous outing. Coming to Bangarraju, it is a direct continuation of Soggade Chinni Nayana. It takes off from where the original ended and then moves forward in time introducing Naga Chaitanya as Chinna Bangarraju.

‘Bangarraju ‘ is a routine script which is somewhat compensated by colorful songs , Nagarjuna and Chay presence. The attempted comedy hardly brings laughter, there is absolutely no freshness in the script. Nag , Chay, Ramyakrishna cast definitely adds value to the film. At Boxoffice sankranthi season might bring some revenue at B C Centers . Akkineni fans may give it a try
