Sadak2: UNBEARABLE. Just cannot be compared to its first part… Lacklustre plot… Lethargic and lifeless screenwriting… Music doesn’t work either… Terrible waste of the brand [#Sadak] and talent associated with this film

To watch Sadak 2 is to travel in a time machine. You of course revisit the 90sSadak 2 doesn’t just mirror the original in terms of narrative beats. The storytelling, performances dialogue, cinematography, songs, background music – all seem to belong to the 90s, which was the last time Mahesh Bhatt directed a film before this. Bhatt, who has co-written the story with Suhrita Sengupta, is still resolutely stuck in thirty years ago. Gulshan Grover, who did multiple films with him then, reappears here as a one-handed baddie named Hathkatta – it’s like time has stopped.

On the whole, Sadak 2 is not at all a worthy sequel to the hit Sadak. Had the film been released in the cinemas, it would have met with a disastrous fate. Even now, it will not be liked by the audience.

All those waiting to pounce on all those who dared to like Sadak 2, kindly exhale. The film is, in one word, terrible: why would anyone want to make something so dated, so jaded, in this day and age?

It is rather disappointing to see a filmmaker of Mahesh Bhatt’s stature to make a comeback as a director with ‘Sadak 2’. No offense… but why this, Bhatt saab? In a nutshell, ‘Sadak 2’, for everyone involved with this project, should have been a ‘road not taken’. And for those who are planning on watching this purely for sentimental reasons, be forewarned: This Sadak leads nowhere; turn back. Jai Guru ji!

All said and done, walk in with little expectations, and you might not be as disappointed as I am. Good performances, poor execution drop the film at what its rightly called – Sadak.

What drove director Mahesh Bhatt to excavate one of his 90s hits and attempt this brain-numbing sequel is beyond us. While dated storytelling tropes, jaded dialogue and exaggerated sets can be tolerated if not ignored, what really gets to you is the maker’s audacity to assume that audiences in 2020 will be willing to sit through this indulgent story which can only trigger a nasty migraine. In fact, since this film has his daughter Alia Bhatt in the lead, he makes a fine case for reverse nepotism especially since a star child may not always have a ready, reasonable excuse to duck out of her parent’s pet project.

When someone suggests that he turn on the GPS, the cab driver preens that he does not need the help of a machine to find an address. Not bad, but even he cannot guide Sadak 2 to its destination. A journey without a map that shilly-shallies between appalling vacuity and pulpy pontification on life and death, the film is a one-way, dead-end ride. All it yields is a ghastly pile-up of inanities.

SADAK 2 begins on a bizarre note. The introduction of characters is not done well and it makes it clear that it won’t be a smooth ride. The film gets a bit better once Aryaa and Ravi get to know each other. However, logic consistently takes a backseat and that becomes too much after a point. On the whole, SADAK 2 is confusing, depressing and a dull fare.
