The idea of a demon with keys for fingernails is also pretty cool. But mostly the scares are predictable and the story is limp. There is one twist that I didn’t see coming but the rest of it is all creaking doors, blood-dripping spirits and smoke-filled corridors. There isn’t much here that you haven’t seen before. Shaye brings depth to the enterprise and I like that a horror franchise can be fronted by an elderly woman but Insidious: The Last Key feels like a car running on empty.

Insidious: The Last Key’ fails to live up to franchise’s high standards, you can watch it only if you are a fan of horror films in general and looking for thrills. The ardent fans of the franchise will be disappointed.

The final stretch of the movie gets into surreal-hypnotised planes and any Bollywood fan will spot ‘Mere Paas Maa Hai’ moment coming on from a mile off! The ending brings us to where it all started which in turn leaves no room for improvement. Let’s hope this is it for the franchise and we won’t get spin-offs with Specs and Tucker’s origin stories.

Adam Robitel’s film relies on generic thrills to get going. The set-up manages to get the mood going with the almost ominous recollection of past dread and then powers into the battle with the new threat. Lots of jump-scares in it for those so easily primed. Writer Leigh Whannell appears to have based this telling on Elise’s story – which is what lends it maturity and strength.

Insidious- The last key Story: 

After the events in the previous film, Elise Rainier goes on to investigate the recent supernatural disturbances occurring in a family’s home in New Mexico, a house in which she used to live in her youth, diving her deeper into The Further. The film starts in Five Keys, New Mexico.
