It has become difficult for the spy/ assassin film genre to differentiate one entry from the other. In many ways, they all come across as clones following some minor variation of the same generic plot points. ‘American Assassin’ is no different from what we’ve seen before in the likes of ‘John Wick’ and ‘Jason Bourne’, but at least it’s captivating enough to keep you entertained throughout its runtime. You’d probably suffer from a serious case of deja vu through it, but if you need a fix of nail-biting action, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.

What’s Good: Everything that a good action film pretends to have, It’s Michael Keaton – so, of course, his performance & Dylan’s moves. What’s Bad: Being a revenge saga – the motive ends up being tissue like, wanna be forced fun scenes, building up the story to end with an old one-two climax, some unbelievable shit happening throughout. Loo Break: Only if you get tired of loud action scenes. Watch or Not?: Michael Keaton, Dylan O’Brien fans? Go ahead, else rewatch the old Bourne & Bond series.

American Assassin Story:

Mitch Rapp (O’Brien), 23, lost his parents to a tragic car accident at the age of 14, as well as his girlfriend to a terrorist attack just as they were engaged. Seeking revenge, he is enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy (Lathan) as a black ops recruit. Kennedy then assigns Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Keaton) to train Mitch. Together they will later on investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on military and civilian targets. The discovery of a pattern in the violence leads them to a joint mission with a lethal Turkish agent, Annika (Negar), to stop a mysterious operative, nicknamed “Ghost” (Kitsch), intent on starting a world war in the Middle East.
