While the first film was an entertaining thriller on puzzling magic tricks and quick chases, this one is more of an emotional saga, replete with infinite twists, hectic plot and talkative characters. A few smart action scenes do pique your interest but too many people have too many hidden motives. This entanglement adds to the thrill but takes the magic out of the story. After a point, you stop caring about who is who and why are they chasing so and so and how do they do it? If you are a fan of fast-paced heist thrillers, this one’s watchable if not as entertaining as the prequel.

The script written by Ed Solomon lacks clarity. With heavy duty magic-action scenes, verbose exposition and too many characters with their own history, the plot gets convoluted. Demystifying its own mysteries strains the limits of patience and belief and further makes the narrative unconvincing. Technically, the film is brilliant. But overall, this film does not succeed to wow.
