The Light: Swami Vivekananda Movie Review
Ratings:1.5/5 Review By: Renuka Vyavahare Site:Times Of India (TOI)
The Light: Swami Vivekananda doesn’t belong to either category. It’s a kind of biopic that makes its influential subject look so uninteresting that even a believer might turn agnostic. Barring the lead actor Deep Bhattacharya, the supporting cast overacts, making the film look unintentionally funny. Whether you are or are not a follower of the legendary Swami Vivekananda, this is one film you must avoid watching for neither does it inspire you, nor does it make you want to know more about him. You’d rather visit the Vivekananda Kendra in Kanyakumari to seek spiritual happiness.

Needless to point out, the film was supposed to follow the celebrated Hindu monk on his quest for enlightenment. However, very little focus is shed on how he transforms from an elite skeptic to a universal saint. His association with his guru Ramakrishna is reduced to some cheap display of cosmic CGI making you wonder “Really? What were they thinking?” before you can’t wait for the movie to end. Lastly, this film could have been far better as an all-praising documentary. A tribute doesn’t necessarily mean that one can toy with the idea of making a film without getting the basics right.
