Rabba Main Kya Karoon Movie Review

Ratings:2.5/5 Review By: Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama

RABBA MAIN KYA KAROON is basically a love story draped in the guise of a comic caper. The love story of Akash and Tahira relies heavily on the oft-repeated template of beginning on a sweet note and ending with a rather expected twist. As for the comic quotient, the antics manage to elicit a giggle initially, but you are left wanting more than what’s on display as the story moves forward. As for the music, barring ‘Khulla Saand’, not much works here. On the whole, RABBA MAIN KYA KAROON appeals in bits and spurts. It might appeal to a section of the audience in North thanks to the Punjabi flavour.

Set in the days leading up to the wedding, RMKK has all the buzzwords that could describe quintessential Bollywood: meaningless songs, misogynist themes, homophobic sequences (‘normal’=straight), lack of drama, predictable plot, contrived (and misguided) redemption … it’s all there. Why would Amrit Sagar Chopra – who proved his mettle with his debut film 1971 and waited five years for his next – agree to make this film that is merely a showcase for his (one presumes) family member? Why would they venture into territory that is notorious for being but quicksand for newcomers these days? Either you go mega-budget or you go off the beaten path. What is this?

Warning for Men only: If you’re cheating on your wife, or planning a feisty fling – keep the married-half away from this one. Chopra’s story sounds hilarious but it doesn’t have the similar effect onscreen. The ensemble is good, but some are underused, the rest overact. The film provides few laughs, but mostly lacks comedy or romance. It bursts into random songs and the climax leaves you laughing – for the wrong reasons.

The best way to be a faithful husband is to cheat on your wife. I’m not saying this. It’s this film that is, and in the most juvenile manner. The trouble with Rabba Main Kya Karoon, as with most of these films which showcase a pair of inexperienced newcomers with a solid, ill-used supporting cast, is that it settles too easily into a s**ist, let’s-dump-on–these-idiot-women mode.

What’s Good: There’s tonnes of cheesy romance! What’s Bad:Tonnes of stupidity! Watch or Not?: Rabba Main Kya Karoon is stupid, banal film that challenges your judgment and intelligence. I suggest you don’t misunderstand it for entertainment because this is sheer brainless slapstick that takes pride in insulting the idea of loyalty in a relationship. Avoid it or you’ll need to spend your fortune away on a divorce lawyer and a marriage counselor very soon!
