World War Z Movie Review
Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site:CNN IBN (IBNLive)
Producer and star Brad Pitt offers a credible performance; he’s at his best in his most vulnerable bits, like his scenes with his two daughters. The film, however, pushes its credibility, asking you not to blink even during such implausible scenes like one in which he and an Israeli soldier emerge the sole survivors of a harrowing plane crash. But these are small nitpickings in an otherwise engaging action thriller that’s well mounted, and delivers enough bang for your buck. I’d say watch the film in 2D if you want to enjoy the little details.I’m going with three-and-a-half out of five for World War Z.

The film moves at breakneck speed throughout, keeping you on the edge of your seat. The 3D barely makes any difference to a horror film but it works here. Cinematography is brilliant. The film stays conventional in terms of concept. It even deviates from the novel (by Max Brooks) it’s adapted from. However, if you are a fan of the genre and extreme destruction and survival get your adrenaline flowing, this one’s highly engaging. Be prepared to play hide-and-seek with the terrifying undead creatures for there’s no place to run, no place to hide… Note: You may not like the film if ‘zombie-action’ fails to thrill you.

World War Z is a first-rate popcorn thriller, which you will enjoy more if you haven’t read the book.World War Z, the book, was layered and narratively dense. World War Z, the movie, by virtue of being a 200 million dollar summer wannabe franchise, is necessarily reductive and conventional. But it’s also smart and gripping. I’m going with three and a half stars and recommending that you immerse yourself in zombieland.

After years of fighting aliens, Hollywood’s latest obsession is taking on zombies. Movie-goers have taken well to films based on these ‘creatures’ and so we have World War Z giving us another massive dose of the undead. To the readers: Watch it only if *You have miraculously made some extra money and are desperate to spend it. *You are a science student who wants to take up zombies as your case study. *You are a HUGE Brad Pitt fan.

While this isn’t the first and won’t be the last of the zombie flicks, WWZ tries to intellectualise the topic and give it a cerebral twist. Apart from the money making ‘action scenes’, fights and chases, Forster offers an interesting analogy of the human psyche.Pitt is charming enough to fill up a frame with the right star appeal to keep us engrossed. But on the flipside we wish we were fully convinced to sustain our interest in a otherwise lethargic first half. Also the last monologue doesn’t do the required trick and seems forced. WWZ has moments where its heart is in the right place, but the whole exercise seems lackluster.
