Joker Music Review

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Joginder Tuteja Site:Bollywood Hungama

Joker is a good album that is a good mix of foot tapping as well as situational tracks. Kafirana’ has been rightly promoted as the flagship song of the album as it is a clear chartbuster all the way. Going by the film’s genre, there is no unnecessary romantic number added to the album. While ‘Yeh Joker’ and ‘Jugnu’ should make their presence felt as situational tracks, the ones that will ensure good sales, downloads and ring-tones are ‘Kafirana (Just You) ‘ and ‘Sing Raja’.OUR PICK(S) Kafirana (Just You), Sing Raja, Yeh Joker

Joker isn’t a perfect soundtrack:The two real gems of the Joker soundtrack are the instrumental tracks composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar. Tears of The Joker – as the name suggests – is a downbeat, mournful melody, seemingly classically influenced and based around a central flute melody, with strings, sitar, and alaps. It’s quite lovely and intricate, and a definite highlight of the album. The other instrumental track, Alien Arrival starts out with an Old Western feel, and is start to finish, a thoroughly filmi theme – suitably grand and moving through various “moods” to suggest the progression of the story. These two tracks together are definitely accomplished and hint at great things to come from G.V. Prakash Kumar, despite the uneven nature of the rest of the album.

The album gets a jump-start with “Kafirana (I want fakht you)”.Overall, the album is a good mix of sounds, but it fails in terms of lyrics. Go for it purely for the instrumental tracks.

OKER is a reasonably good musical entertainer but lacks the punch of one big chartbuster hit. G.V Prakash Kumar shows his brawny skills and dexterity in orchestrations and delivers two notable instrumental works in “Tears of Joker” and “Alien Arrival”. As far as commercial success is concerned, massy “Kafirana” and bombastic “Singh Raja” stands out to be biggest prospect while Udit Narayan”s “Jugnu” impresses with its high quality standards.
